Natalie Cole, who has won nine Grammys over her illustrious singing career, has died at the age of 65.
It appears that the Reverend Jesse Jackson broke the news on Twitter, which TMZ confirmed. Jackson writes, "#NatalieCole, sister beloved & of substance and sound. May her soul rest in peace. #Inseperable."
According to TMZ, Cole had been sick recently, cancelling a February concert due to illness. The cause of death is not yet known, but Cole passed away at a Los Angeles hospital. She had been plagued by health problems in recent years. In 2009, Cole received a kidney transplant; in a tragic turn, her sister Carole died of cancer while Cole was in surgery.
Cole was the eldest child of legendary soul singer Nat King Cole. They famously did a virtual duet of "Unforgettable" in 1991, which kicked off a resurgence in her career.
The R&B singer is survived by twin sisters Timolin and Casey, 54, and a son, Robert Adam Yancy, 39, from her first marriage.
