Nedra Talley Ross, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and the last surviving member of the ’60s-era pop group The Ronettes has died, according to a post on the group’s Facebook page. She was 80.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Nedra Talley Ross’ passing. She was a light to those who knew and loved her,” the post began. “As a founding member of The Ronettes, along with her beloved cousins Ronnie and Estelle, Nedra’s voice, style and spirit helped define a sound that would change music. Her contribution to the group’s story and their defining influence will live forever…”

Born Nedra Yvonne Talley, she and her cousins Veronica “Ronnie” Bennett and Estelle Bennett were raised in Spanish Harlem, where they sang at Bar Mitzvahs and school dances as The Darling Sisters.

They teamed up with producer Phil Spector in 1963 and were renamed The Ronettes. The following year, the group released its only studio album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica. During that time, the Rolling Stones opened for the Ronettes when they toured the UK. Two years later, the Ronettes opened for the Beatles in the U.S. They broke up shortly thereafter.

Nedra then married her boyfriend Scott Ross and changed her name to Nedra Talley Ross. Ronnie married Phil Spector and became Ronnie Spector.

The Ronettes’ best-known song, “Be My Baby,” spent three weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963. The song — which the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson famously has said is “the greatest record ever produced” — was co-written by Spector, whose intense “Wall of Sound” production style is personified by the track.

It wasn’t just Wilson who was a fan.

Martin Scorsese made powerful use of the tune as the opening credits scene of his breakout film, Mean Streets. The director also used the group’s version of “Frosty the Snowman” in Goodfellas.

Their songs have been featured in close to 100 movies and TV shows, including Quadrophenia, Twist + Shout, Moonlighting, Dirty Dancing, The Wonder Years, Nine Months, How I Met Your Mother, Fred Claus, The Wrecking Crew!, Glee, The Simpsons, Pretty Little Liars, Bridget Jones’s Baby, Billions, Industry, Barbarian, Priscilla, The Bear and many more.

“Be My Baby” was by the far the Ronettes’ biggest hit. None of their other singles reached the top 20, though 1964’s “Walking in the Rain” also is recognized as a classic.

After breaking out with “Be My Baby,” the group had a moderate follow-up hit with “Baby, I Love You.” A couple of minor hits later, “Walking in the Rain” hit No. 23 in late 1964. All seven of their Hot 100 singles were produced by Phil Spector. Most of those songs — including “(Best Part of) Breaking Up” and “Do I Love You?” — were on the late-1964 LP … Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica, which peaked at No. 96 and would be their only charting album.

The Ronettes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, three years after they joined the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

{blackbabes} Kat Graham Confirms Diana Ross Role Cut From Michael Jackson Biopic For “Certain Legal Considerations”

Diana Ross looms large in the mythology of Michael Jackson, but the Supremes singer is nowhere to be found in Antoine Fuqua‘s biopic Michael, nor is Kat Graham, who filmed scenes as the Motown icon.

On social media today – including an Instagram Story post (see it below) – Graham writes, “Ahead of the April 24 release of the Michael Jackson film, I want to share that certain legal considerations affected a few scenes, including ones I filmed with an incredible cast. Unfortunately, these moments are no longer part of the final cut, though the team worked hard to preserve as much of the story as possible.”

Graham did not provide specific details about the “legal considerations” faced by the Lionsgate endeavor.

The Diana deletions mark the latest news about last-minute changes made to an initial cut of the biopic: Scenes involving accusations against Jackson of child sexual abuse were excised when the Jackson Estate discovered a past settlement with one of the accusers that prevented the dramatization of his storyline and character.

While Motown once fostered the unfounded claim that Ross discovered the Jackson 5 – Michael Jackson and his brothers – it was actually Gladys Knight who found the group performing in Chicago and encouraged Motown boss Berry Gordy to sign them. Gordy later thought that involving the hit-making Ross in the the tale would be good for marketing, which it was.

Michael stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the Thriller superstar, with Colman Domingo as family patriarch Joe Jackson and Nia Long as mother Katherine. Also in the cast are Miles Teller, Laura Harrier and Larenz Tate.

MADRID — Venus Williams has her sights on the French Open.

The 45-year-old former world No. 1 said Tuesday after losing her 10th straight singles match that she is considering playing at Roland Garros next month.

“Yeah, I mean, to get my feet dirty, this was a great start,” she said in her post-match news conference at the Madrid Open. “I’m not able to play Rome, I have other commitments, unfortunately, so I’m really super sad about that, actually. My husband is Italian, so we feel sad that we can’t be there. So we would love to keep it going on the clay.”

Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, lost 6-2, 6-4 to 20-year-old Spaniard Kaitlin Quevedo.

Williams hadn't played in Madrid in five years. Her last tournament on clay had been at the 2021 French Open, when she lost her first match to Ekaterina Alexandrova.

“All these things take adjustments,” Williams said. “I started my practice on clay a couple weeks after Miami. I haven’t really played on clay in years. But I enjoy the clay, it’s fun. I played against a very inspired opponent today.”

Williams' last win on tour was against Peyton Stearns in the round of 16 of an WTA 500 event in Washington in July 2025. This year, she had already lost in Auckland, Hobart, the Australian Open, Austin, Indian Wells and Miami.

Quevedo earned her first WTA 1000 main-draw win, and just the second tour-level victory of her career. She became the youngest Spanish player to win a main-draw match at the Madrid Open.

“I was so surprised,” Quevedo said. “I didn’t know that was going to happen. I’m just really happy that I was able to play against such a legend on this amazing court for the first time. It was a privilege, and I’m just really happy to be here.”

{blackbabes} Naomi Ackie, Alison Oliver and Éanna Hardwicke to Star in Luna Carmoon’s ‘To Make Ends Meat’

Writer-director Luna Carmoon has wrapped principal photography on her second feature following her breakout debut “Hoard” and unveiled a lineup of buzzy names that are leading the cast.

“To Make Ends Meat” stars Naomi Ackie (“Sorry, Baby,” “Mickey 17”), Alison Oliver (“Wuthering Heights,” “Saltburn”), Éanna Hardwicke (“Saipan,” “The Sixth Commandment”) and Armande Boulanger (“The Returned,” “Eiffel”), and follows three women, all in debt to despicable men, their pasts, and each other, who find themselves bargaining to survive in the only language these men seem to understand: consumption and violence.

BBC Film, BFI (awarding National Lottery funding), True Brit, Goodfellas, Mother, ProdCo, Arts Alliance, Affine Films, Cofiloisirs and Blush Film are financing the feature. Goodfellas will also handle international sales and are launching the film in Cannes, with True Brit having already taken distribution rights in the U.K. and Ireland.

“This film has come from the belly of my soul, of all things, tar and family,” said Carmoon. “From my grandmother’s experiences in Newington Lodge, to my mother Toni and the cleaning houses she took me to where darker things lingered, to teddies and chicken farms. So much of my family and our memories seep deeper than you’d think. I cannot think of a more prevalent time than now to paint and stitch and weave to screen, it is my rage that has fuelled this.”

She added: “The weatherings of being a woman and how you are cannibalised by systems, by men, women and then by debts we sometimes write ourselves into because we believe we deserve it so. This has been made with all my blood, figuratively and yes, physically of all of me. I hope I know it will rupture, splinter and cry to us all when it is stitched together.”

“Hoard” premiered at Venice Critics’ Week in 2023 to critical acclaim and multiple prizes. The film went on to receive international distribution and was nominated for the Outstanding British Debut BAFTA in 2025. In the time between films Carmoon also directed a trilogy of music videos for Fontaines D.C.

The stars of Boston Blue teased some major developments in the remaining episodes of Season 1 at CBS Fest on Wednesday, April 15, in Los Angeles. Donnie Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green, Mika Amonsen, and Marcus Scribner told TV Insider on the red carpet what to expect in the episodes, from Bridget Moynahan‘s return as Erin Reagan to a major “loss,” a cliffhanger finale ending, and what Scribner calls “the most stacked family dinner of all time” that will feature new characters.

Here’s a breakdown of everything we learned.

The Boston Blue Season 1 Finale Is “Intense” and Has a Big “Loss” With Cliffhanger Ending

Sonequa Martin-Green in 'Boston Blue' Season 1 Episode 20 finale

Here’s the logline for the Boston Blue Season 1 finale, airing on Friday, May 22: “A dangerous investigation collides with pivotal personal and professional decisions, pushing the team to their limits. As the D.A. election draws closer, shifting dynamics and an unexpected incident heighten the urgency and raise new questions for everyone involved.”

Photos from the episode (see above) show the cast at a hospital, and Sean Reagan’s (Amonsen) hands are covered in blood. Does someone they love die?

“I wasn’t ready for how intense the finale is,” Martin-Green told us. “Everybody goes through a transformation. We unearth a lot of things for everyone, and I think people are going to be satisfied, but then they’re also going to [want] more. That sounds general, but you’ll see how true it is.”

“There’s a lot of resolution in the finale up against a lot of loss,” Wahlberg warns. “But the resolution, for all the characters in their lives, there’s a lot of resolution that allows us to move forward.”

“We really hit our stride now in the back half of the first season,” Wahlberg added. “I think the audience is going to be blown away, honestly, at where we go.”

Where does the finale leave Danny and Lena’s relationship?

“Oh, solid, solidified, cemented, forged,” Martin-Green assured as Wahlberg added, “In steel.”

“Yes, tested by fire, tried and true,” said Martin-Green.

Danny and Erin Reagan Have an Adventure When Bridget Moynahan Returns

Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green in 'Boston Blue' Season 1 Episode 17

Moynahan returns as Erin Reagan in Season 1 Episode 17, airing on Friday, May 1. When a captured serial killer hints at the whereabouts of a missing child, Danny teams up with a familiar ally in a tense race against time. Meanwhile, health scares and long‑kept family secrets surface, forcing members of the team to confront personal truths.

“It’s really a fun episode. Danny and Erin go off on an adventure,” Wahlberg revealed. “Lena goes off on a separate adventure, and we’re really apart for the first time in different worlds. It’s really like, where is she and where are they and what is happening, but it’s so fun. The Bridget storyline is so fun, and Lena starts to discover her family situation on a deeper level. It’s great.”

Could Lena be learning the truth about her father in that episode?

“There’s going to be a cliffhanger of some sort,” Scribner revealed. “We’re going to have a very interesting family dinner, so look forward to that.”

“We’re going to stack it with some new characters,” Amonsen revealed. “We won’t say who.”

“We’ve got a lot of people coming in,” Scribner added. “It’s going to be the most stacked family dinner of all time.”

“Absolutely stacked,” added Amonsen, “so stacked right now.”

“It’s going to be great, but yeah, the final episode is so much fun,” Scribner shared, “actually our last two episodes.”

“Oh, they’re really good episodes, to be honest, they keep getting better and better,” Amonsen agreed. “It’s absolute fire.”

Amonsen and Scribner shared their hopes for their rookie cops in Boston Blue Season 2, which premieres this fall on CBS.

“I want [Jonah] to continue down his path of villainy, so I want him to go back to his revenge arc,” Scribner teased. “I want him to stop being a good guy. I want him to just be the worst. I want him to be the problem of the show.”

“And I want to have a villain arc,” Amonsen added.

“Oh, but that won’t work for both of us,” Scribner joked, as his costar replied, “But what if we’re both villains together?

“We team up, and through the power of friendship, we take down the good guys,” Scribner joked.

“We just become dirty cops and take down everyone,” Amonsen quipped.
