{blackbabes} Special team tasked with getting Mariah to NYE performance on time

A team of producers has been assigned to famously late but always fabulous Mariah Carey to get her to New York's Times Square in time to perform before the ball drops at midnight.

Carey is set to ring in 2017 with a live performance in Times Square as the headliner for "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest" on ABC.

But given the legendary diva's renowned ability to make a dramatic late entrance, producers are leaving nothing to chance.

An NYE show insider said, "Mariah has to be on time. She is the top performer in Times Square right before the ball drop. They've booked her an apartment at a top Times Square hotel for hair and makeup because they fear she'd never make it from her Manhattan apartment on time. There's a team of top producers tasked to get her there on time and shepherd her to the stage."

The source added that Carey's team was so unfamiliar with New York's Times Square festivities that "when Dick Clark producers called to lock in her arrival time, Mariah's team actually asked for clarification, 'What time exactly does the ball drop?'"

One showbiz insider mused, "They should have told Mariah 11 p.m., just to be safe."

Carey will take the Midtown Manhattan stage moments before the ball drops to mark the new year. Also on the musical lineup: pop-rock band DNCE, country star Thomas Rhett, and Gloria Estefan and the cast of her Broadway musical, "On Your Feet!"

In 2014 Carey reportedly forced the production of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree-lighting ceremony to wait for several hours as she allegedly didn't want to perform in the rain; later reports blamed her divorce proceedings with Nick Cannon. She did eventually perform, and subsequently wrote on Twitter, "Last night's situation was beyond my control. I apologize to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you." Reps for Carey and Dick Clark Productions didn't get back to us Friday night.

{blackbabes} Serena Williams Engaged to Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian

1229-serena-alex-tmz-alex-ohanian

Serena Williams just got engaged to a guy who co-founded Reddit, and then announced it on his platform.

Serena took to Reddit Thursday morning to break the news to the whole world in the form of a poem ... she'll soon be the wife of 33-year-old Alexis Ohanian.

The tennis star detailed her story in a Reddit post, saying Alexis popped the question with a surprise trip to Rome -- where they apparently first met. She said he took her to the exact same table where they first talked ... and got on one knee.

Spoiler alert ... she said yes. Congrats!

{blackbabes} Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez Divorce Final

1228_halle_berry_olivier_martinez_tmz-2

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are officially single ... and he agreed to let her say, "I left you!"

Halle and Olivier filed for divorce at almost the exact same moment back in October 2015 ... she filed as the petitioner and he also filed as the petitioner seeking a divorce.

Under California law only one person can be the petitioner, and Olivier agreed to give Halle the honor.

Under the settlement, they will share physical and legal custody of 3-year-old Maceo.

For some reason, they decided to only deal with the custody issues and the property settlement is still unresolved. It's weird, because our sources say there's a prenup so there shouldn't be big issues.

Halle and Olivier married in 2013.

{blackbabes} BET & Gabrielle Union Reach Settlement In ‘Being Mary Jane’ Lawsuit

The future is looking brighter for Being Mary Jane. Bet announced today that the two sides have reached a settlement in star Gabrielle Union's multimillion-dollar breach of contract lawsuit against the network.

"BET Networks is pleased to announce that they have reached an amicable agreement with Gabrielle Union and look forward to sharing the new season of Being Mary Jane with its loyal fans beginning January 10, 2017," the network said today in a statement provided to Deadline. No further details were revealed. Reps for Union did not respond to request for comment on the settlement.

The future of BET's signature drama appeared to be in doubt after Union filed the lawsuit in October. Union had alleged BET and the show's producers had reneged on an agreement to have a significant break between the 10-episode fourth and fifth seasons of the drama. According to Union's camp, BET and Being Mary Jane producers threw that deal aside so production could run back-to-back and costs cut. Union was seeking general damages of at least $3 million and a declaration that BET could not seek more than 13 episodes for any season of Being Mary Jane. Series producer Breakdown Productions also was a defendant in the suit.

There is no word on how this deal will effect the action SAG-AFTRA has taken against BET over allegedly breaking the contract the union had with the net.

{blackbabes} Of course Mariah listens to her own Christmas music

The Queen of Christmas even bows down to herself.

Mariah Carey captured a festive moment on Instagram, sharing a video of herself and son Moroccan dancing around her lavish kitchen to her holiday hit, "All I Want for Christmas Is You."

In the clip, Moroccan, 5, lip syncs to his mom's infectious vocals while she stirs a pot of sauce, the sleeve of her red robe dangerously close to the flame of her stainless steel stove.

"Are you ready for my sauce?" the chanteuse, 46, asks a dancing Moroccan. "I'm almost done!"

The sauce appears to be tomato-based, though few other ingredients are visible in Carey's spotless kitchen. But don't discount her culinary skills: Ex-husband Nick Cannon previously praised her holiday cooking before their 2014 split.

{blackbabes} Serena Williams on why she doesn't read press about herself

In an extensive interview about race, sport and identity, Serena Williams explained why she avoids reading stories about herself in the media.

In an interview with Common for The Undefeated that aired Sunday, Williams said, "At a very young age, I think I was 17, I stopped reading any press about me. I think cause I was reading an article and they were pumping me up, like being this great player, whatever, one to watch, and blah, blah, blah. And then I thought I don't want my head to get too big; I don't want to be that person that thinks they're too good for anyone else. And at the same time, I thought I also don't want to be looking at these negative articles. People talking so negative about me, my body, about how I look. I didn't want either side of the spectrum.

"I just decided from that day, I never read an article. I think that actually helped me avoid a lot of the scrutiny.

"I kind of put myself in a bubble, where I shielded myself and protected myself from anything that ever came out about me. To this day still, I just feel like I definitely was scrutinized because I was confident and I was black. … And I am black and I am confident."

Williams spent 186 consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 before that streak ended in September. She said in the interview that she was told while growing up not to talk about becoming No. 1.

"Why shouldn't I say that? If I don't think I'm gonna be the best, why do I play? I could be hanging out; I could be at the beach somewhere or doing something different."

{blackbabes} Rashida Jones buys 40-acre estate for $3.2M

Rashida Jones, star of "Parks and Recreation" and daughter of music legend Quincy Jones, has paid $3.2 million for a 40-acre spread in Ojai, Calif., says the Los Angeles Times.

The tile-roofed contemporary has four bedrooms and four baths in 3,500 square feet. The gated home was built in 1996 by architect Thornton Ladd as his personal residence.

It features glass walls overlooking mountains and countryside, an open floor plan, a living room with open beam ceiling, and a newish kitchen. Light, wide-plank wood floors flow throughout the public spaces.

The home has two spacious master suites and an add-on wing with more bedrooms, bath and family room.

The property was last sold in 2008 for $2.5 million. It hit the market in July for $3.4 million and Jones closed on it a couple months later for $200,000 under asking.

In a sitcom-worthy twist, actor John Krasinski, Jones' co-star on "The Office," has been trying to unload his own Ojai spread for over a year. Krasinski and his wife, actress Emily Blunt, initially listed their home for $4.25 million, but have since cut the price to $2.75 million.

Jones, 40, has also starred in films, including "I Love You, Man" and "Our Idiot Brother." She wrote the screenplay for "Toy Story 4."

{blackbabes} Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green Cast as Star Trek: Discovery Lead

Star Trek Discovery Sonequa Martin Green Cast

A Walking Dead actress is about to forge the final frontier.

Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery, EW.com reports.

Martin-Green will play a lieutenant commander in the sci-fi reboot, a role then-executive producer Bryan Fuller described at last summer's Television Critics Association press tour  as having "caveats."

The 13-episode first season, which will be available weekly on CBS All Access after launching with a two-hour premiere on CBS network in May, follows an incident in the history of Starfleet that other series/movies in the franchise have touched on but never fully explored. Per Fuller, Discovery will tell "that story through a character who is on a journey that is going to teach her how to get along with others in the galaxy."

CBS declined to comment on the casting.

Fuller stepped down as showrunner earlier this fall due to creative differences. "I'm not involved in production, or post-production," he recently confirmed. "So I can only give them the material I've given them and hope that it is helpful for them. I'm curious to see what they do with it."

Martin-Green's casting is sure to raise questions about the future of her Walking Dead character, Sasha, who remains very much alive on the AMC hit. An AMC rep maintains that the actress remains a series regular on the AMC series.

She joins a cast that includes Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Doug Jones (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Anthony Rapp (Rent), Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful) and Chris Obi (American Gods).
