{blackbabes} SWilliams hits 23 aces, edges Zheng at Wimbledon

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- While watching Serena Williams come from behind at Wimbledon, older sister Venus sat in the front row stifling a yawn.

Nothing to worry about.

Venus was correct - barely. Serena hit a Wimbledon-record 23 aces, held every service game and narrowly escaped an upset bid by Zheng Jie, winning 6-7 (5), 6-2, 9-7 in the third round Saturday.

Williams, who erased all six break points she faced, served three times to stay in the match and held each time at love. She was pushed to deuce serving in the final game but closed out the victory with a volley winner, then hopped in glee on the Centre Court grass.

''I just wanted to get through that match,'' Williams said. ''The last thing I wanted to do was lose.''

The 5-foot-4 1/2 Zheng, seeded 25th, played with little flash but plenty of consistency, committing just 17 unforced errors. She hung in the match despite hitting only one ace.

Venus Williams - a five-time champion who lost in the first round - may not have been concerned, but Serena looked plenty worried. She rocketed a return to break for an 8-7 lead in the final set, then showed how much she wanted to win, throwing back her head and letting out a long scream.

Williams has been stalled at 13 Grand Slam titles since winning Wimbledon for the fourth time in 2010, and dealt with a series of health issues in 2010-11.

Her next opponent will be unseeded Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan, who won all 24 points in the first set - a so-called ''golden set'' - and beat French Open runner-up Sara Errani 6-0, 6-4. It's the first known golden set by a woman in the Open era, the International Tennis Federation said, and the BBC showed a highlight package of all 24 points.

Williams will face Shvedova on Monday.

''Hopefully I'll be able to win a point in the set,'' Williams said. ''That will be my first goal, and then I'll go from there.''

Defending champion Petra Kvitova, No. 2-ranked Victoria Azarenka and former French Open champions Ana Ivanovic and Francesca Schiavone also reached the fourth round.

Lukas Rosol, who stunned two-time champion Rafael Nadal in the second round, flopped in his follow-up, losing to No. 27-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-2, 6-3, 7-6 (6).

''I knew that this can happen,'' said Rosol, a Czech ranked 100th. ''I was thinking only just to don't sleep and open eyes again and play good tennis.''

Three-time runner-up Andy Roddick failed to convert two set points in the second set and lost to No. 7-seeded David Ferrer 2-6, 7-6 (8), 6-4, 6-3. Fellow American Mardy Fish, playing in his first tournament since undergoing a procedure on his heart in May, beat David Goffin 6-3, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6).

Qualifier Brian Baker, an American mounting a career comeback from reconstructive elbow surgery, continued his surprising run by beating Benoit Paire 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

''It is crazy, kind of, what's going on,'' said Baker, ranked 126th. ''I'm still trying to stay focused on the task at hand and not get too wrapped around it. Because once you do that, I think it's tough to be able to play your best.''

No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga swept Lukas Lacko 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 and next faces Fish.

On a sunny, windy afternoon, the retractable Centre Court roof was open after being closed all day Friday, and the breeze that had Williams' skirt flapping might have contributed to her slow start. She struggled with her returns, and several times shanked serves by Zheng that barely reached 100 mph.

Williams didn't have a break-point chance in the first set, and every point Zheng won in the tiebreaker came on an error by her opponent, including two mishit returns.

''I thought, 'Serena, just relax and be calm,''' Williams said. ''I felt good. I never felt like I was going to lose this match.''

Williams briefly locked on Zheng's serve in the second set, sweeping the final 13 points to even the match.

In the last set, Williams overcame a love-40 deficit to hold for 2-all. Two games later, when she bounced a kick second serve over her opponent's head for an ace, Zheng managed a laugh.

Later in the set Williams won 14 consecutive service points, including three aces in one game to reach 7-all. She held 18 times and lost only 18 of 98 service points.

''It's a tough match, because she has big serve,'' Zheng said. ''It's very difficult against her on the grass court.''

{blackbabes} Get with the programme, Serena says

MR.BEER® Home Brewing Kits. America's #1 Home Brewing System. Makes a great gift!

LONDON (Reuters) - Serena Williams drew a line under the equal-pay spat that has resurfaced at this Wimbledon Championships, declaring the conversation "totally over".

"That was so 2000; this is 2012. Who is still thinking like that, like honestly? Get with the programme," she said after beating China's Zheng Jie 6-7 6-2 9-7 in the third round.

Frenchman Gilles Simon raised the thorny topic, saying women should not receive equal pay, and that it was a matter of entertainment levels, not whether a player plays for three or five sets.

"I have the feeling that men's tennis is actually more interesting than women's tennis," the men's 13th seed said, sparking the heated debate.

Before declaring the issue "totally over", Serena reiterated her robust stance.

"I deserve to get paid the same amount. I don't deserve less 'cause I have boobs and they don't. That's definitely not the case," she told reporters.

"I worked just as hard since I was three. I think they worked hard since they were three, four, two, whatever the case is.

"Actually I have a picture when I'm on the court and I'm in a stroller, so even longer than that. I definitely know my whole life has been dedicated toward being a top athlete, and I shouldn't get paid less because of my sex."

Embracing Simon's argument, but countering his opinion, she hit back: "Whenever I play I get a lot of people in the stands. I'm not trying to pontificate or anything, but a lot of people do definitely show up. So that's what it's about. You got to be able to bring the crowd."

{blackbabes} Subdued Serena fights back to beat Zheng

MR.BEER® Home Brewing Kits. America's #1 Home Brewing System. Makes a great gift!

LONDON (Reuters) - A subdued Serena Williams recovered from a sluggish start to beat China's Zheng Jie 6-7 6-2 9-7 in a marathon Wimbledon third-round match on Saturday.

The American four-times Wimbledon champion struggled to cope with the windy conditions and Zheng, seeded 25th, served consistently throughout the first set before winning it 7-5 in the tiebreak.

The sixth-seeded Williams finally broke Zheng, Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2008, in the fifth game of the second set and she did so again in the seventh on the way to leveling the match.

Williams, 30, recovered from 0-40 down to hold serve in the fourth game of the third set and she made the decisive break in the 15th game before converting her third match point to set up a last-16 clash with Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.

{blackbabes} Naomi Campbell, perfume firm settle NYC lawsuits

Microsoft Store

NEW YORK (AP) — Naomi Campbell and a perfume company have settled a sour dispute that started over a fragrance line and became part of the backdrop of former Liberian President Charles Taylor's war crimes trial.

Dueling lawsuits between the supermodel and an entity called Moodform Mission were closed Thursday, Manhattan court records show. Moodform Mission's lawyer, Daniel R. Bright, said Friday his clients "are happy with the settlement," but he wouldn't disclose details. Campbell's lawyer didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

The dispute involves Campbell's longtime former modeling agent, Carole White, who joined with a Miami Beach, Fla.-based cosmetics company to form Moodform Mission in the 1990s.

Her New York court fight with the model was mentioned at Taylor's 2010 war crimes trial, at which White contradicted the model's testimony about some alleged blood diamonds — gems used to finance wars — she received from the former Liberian president. Taylor was convicted of arming and supporting murderous rebels in Sierra Leone in return for blood diamonds; he was sentenced in May to 50 years in prison. He plans to appeal his conviction.

At his trial in the Netherlands, Campbell said she didn't know the source of the stones presented to her after a dinner at former South African President Nelson Mandela's mansion in 1997, or even that they were diamonds. She gave them to a friend to donate to charity.

When White took the stand and insisted that Campbell knew Taylor had provided the stones, Taylor's lawyer accused White of lying to further her lawsuit over the perfume fallout. White denied it.

In the perfume suit, Moodform Mission said it was unfairly squeezed out of its share of millions of dollars in profits from such scents as Naomi Campbell, Cat Deluxe and Seductive Elixir after working for years to line up a 1998 fragrance deal for Campbell.

The agreement called for regular payments to Moodform Mission once the scents went on the market in 2001, netting Campbell millions of dollars over the years, according to the company's lawsuit. It said Campbell violated the contract by inking a new fragrance-licensing agreement in 2008.

The new deal "was a fraudulent scheme arranged by (Campbell) for the purpose of avoiding her obligation to pay Moodform Mission the money required to be paid to it," said the suit, filed in 2009.

Campbell, meanwhile, said she wasn't given full information before signing her deal with Moodform Mission. She said she didn't know for years that White — her chief agent from 1993 until about 2006 — had a stake in the perfume partnership.

"If White had told me that she was a principal in (Moodform Mission), I would not have blindly trusted her advice to sign the documents that she brought to me," Campbell said in a sworn statement last year. "... White held a position of trust and confidence in my life, and I expected her to act in my best interests (and never to benefit if this would be detrimental to my interests)."

Campbell, now 41, became one of the world's highest-paid models after being discovered at age 15. She is British.

She has also been known for her feisty temper. At various points, she pleaded guilty to cursing and kicking at police officers in a rage over missing luggage at London's Heathrow Airport, hurling a cellphone at her maid in New York because of a vanished pair of jeans and beating an assistant who said the model whacked her on the head with a phone in Toronto.

She was released without punishment in the Toronto case and sentenced to community service in the others.

{blackbabes} Matthew McConaughey, Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hill and More Invited to Join the Academy

A slew of our favorite celebs are going to rock the vote.

Yup, it's that time of year: when a select group of Hollywood A-listers are invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the prestigious organization responsible for handing out the Oscars.

At the top of this year's list of 176 invitees are Matthew McConaughey, Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hill, Kerry Washington, The Help costars Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer along with The Artist's Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo.

So, why'd they make the cut?

"These film professionals represent some of the most talented, most passionate contributors to our industry," Academy President Tom Sherak said in a statement. "I'm glad to recognize that by calling each of them a fellow Academy member."

The Artist's stars aren't the only celebs from across our borders to be asked: Simon Baker, Demián Bichir, Richard E. Grant, Diego Luna, Janet McTeer and Michelle Yeoh are on the list, too.

Brad Pitt's The Tree of Life director Terrence Malick has been asked, as has Michel Hazanavicius, the French director behind The Artist.

Rounding things out are Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, Nia Vardalos, Lili Taylor, Tom Berenger, Clifton Collins, Jr. and Andy Serkis.

If they all accept—and we can't imagine they won't—voting membership will stand at just under 6,000.
