{blackbabes} Youngster Gauff reminds Serena of herself

London (AFP) - American tennis legend Serena Williams says the sight of 15-year-old compatriot Cori Gauff training with her father reminds her of her own early days on the circuit doing the same thing.

The 37-year-old former world number one -- bidding for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title at this year's Wimbledon -- and her sister Venus were coached from the age of four by their father Richard.

In one of the more intriguing first round match-ups in the women's singles, 39-year-old Venus will play Gauff, who became the youngest ever woman's qualifier earlier this week.

"She's such a fantastic young lady," said Serena at her pre-Wimbledon press conference.

"She works very hard. Every time I have work, I see her out there working, training, her and her dad.

"It reminds me of the time where I was out there with my dad.

"I can't help but look inside of myself and be proud and be happy for her. Yeah, so it's really nice to see."

For the younger Williams sister the resemblances don't just stop there as she also sees similarities between five-time Wimbledon champion Venus and Gauff, who is ranked 257 places lower than her.

"It's a great moment for her (Gauff) and for Venus," said Williams.

"She's playing against a player that actually reminds me of Venus, her body and everything.

"It will be a good match. I might watch but I always get nervous watching Venus."

Williams, who says her build-up for a tilt at an eighth Wimbledon singles crown has not been ideal due to a knee injury which is now much better, did not realise Australian Ashleigh Barty had become world number one.

"Wow, that's great," she said on learning French Open champion Barty was top of the rankings.

"I think Ash -- I don't know anyone that has anything negative to say about her.

"She's like the sweetest, cutest girl on tour.

"She has the most beautiful game, such classic shots. I mean, she does everything right. Her technique is, like, flawless."

Williams believes Barty could stay number one for a while having taken over from Naomi Osaka.

"I think so," said Williams, whose own French Open campaign ended in a third round loss to fellow American Sofia Kenin in what was her earliest exit at a Slam since 2014.

"I think she has a great game. I think, like, she's really even-tempered.

"She's just really chill. I feel like she's just so relaxed in a way.

"She's had a solid year, as well. It's not just the French Open. She won Miami. Yeah, I think anything is possible."

{blackbabes} 'I know how to play': True, Serena, especially at Wimbledon

https://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/ux4QV7eDoUwvuHemSAvVNw--~A/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjtzbT0xO3c9ODAw/https://media.zenfs.com/en/ap.org/ba6758178d7a5784a989a462b1a2a5b7

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Serena Williams says she's feeling better as Wimbledon is about to get started.

Her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, says the seven-time Wimbledon champion doesn't have pain anymore in a left knee that was at least partly responsible for Williams playing only 12 matches so far this season and not getting a chance to prepare properly for tournaments.

In some ways, it's hard to know what Williams will be able to do at the All England Club. Then again, as Williams said with a wry smile Saturday: "I know how to play tennis."

The draw put her in a quarter of the bracket with defending champion Angelique Kerber, two other past champions in Maria Sharapova and Garbine Muguruza, No. 1 Ash Barty and some top-notch grass-court players.

Mouratoglou's take: "I wouldn't want to be in the part of the draw that Serena's in."

{blackbabes} Serena 'available' for mixed doubles as Murray seeks partner

LONDON (Reuters) - Serena Williams fueled talk of a dream-team partnership with home favorite Andy Murray after declaring her availability for the Wimbledon mixed doubles on Saturday.

Murray returned from a five-month injury lay-off last week to win the men's doubles title at Queen's Club with Feliciano Lopez and is entered with Pierre-Hugues Herbert at Wimbledon.

The 32-year-old, twice a men's singles winner at Wimbledon, also plans to play mixed as he continues his recovery from hip-resurfacing surgery in February. He is not playing singles.

Murray was turned down by new women's world number one Ash Barty but the 37-year-old Williams, who will be aiming for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title here, left the door open for a possible approach.

"I'm available. I'm feeling better now, so I'm definitely available," Williams, whose playing time this year has been restricted to five tournaments because of knee issues, told reporters when asked whether would like to play with Murray.

Pushed on the subject, Williams added a word of caution though, suggesting it would depend on her fitness: "I mean, we just have to wait and see. I like to be tongue-in-cheek.

"Let's see how my knee's going. I'm finally doing good. I don't want to, like, go back."

Murray said he had spoken to several players but understood that singles was their priority.

Asked about Serena he said: "If I'm going to play mixed, which is the plan, you obviously want to be playing with someone who's going to be there for the whole event, and they're in it to try to win matches and win the event."

"I appreciate with singles players that's not always going to be the case. But she's arguably the best player ever. It would be a pretty solid partner," smiled Murray.

Williams, who won the Wimbledon mixed doubles with Max Mirnyi in 1998, has not played a competitive match since losing in the French Open third round to Sofia Kenin.

Seeded 11th, she begins her quest for an eighth Wimbledon singles crown against Italian qualifier Giulia Gatto-Monticone.

Despite not playing any grasscourt warm-up tournaments she is optimistic about her fitness.

"I was dealing with some bad injuries all year. I just haven't had enough match play, quite frankly," she said.

"Finally feel like I found some good results in Paris. I stayed there. I saw some good doctors. Yeah, I'm feeling better.

"I have been really just mentally training, physically training for that time here. I'm just going to do the best that I can now that I'm here. I know how to play tennis."

{blackbabes} Serena headed to Wimbledon seeking return to form

(Reuters) - Serena Williams will bring her quest for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title to Wimbledon next week where she will try to shake off a nagging knee injury and show the tennis world that her window of opportunity is still open.

Williams has been stuck on 23 Grand Slam titles, one behind the all-time record held by Margaret Court, for over two years and has shown little evidence of late that she will be able to snap that drought at the All England Club.

"As long as she's playing, she's going to be a threat to win anything," ESPN tennis analyst and former world number one John McEnroe told a conference call.

"But it's just now there's more things that can go wrong, I suppose, like more days where she might not have it and other days where players won't give in as easily. So that just makes it more difficult."

The 37-year-old American's time on court has been limited to a handful of matches since the Australian Open in January due in part to a knee injury that kept her from competing in a tune-up event ahead of Wimbledon, where action begins on July 1.

After losing in the third round at the French Open, Williams did not exactly sound her confident self when asked if she would have enough time to get in optimal shape for Wimbledon, where she is a seven-times winner.

"I hope so. I'm still working on it and working on getting there," said Williams. "So I think it will be, I think it be enough time. We'll see, but I definitely hope so."

When Williams was at the peak of her career, she was so far above the competition that she could barrel her way through a Grand Slam draw even if she was having an off day.

But the combination of injury, a limited playing schedule and an increased standard of women's tennis over the past few years have left many to question whether she can again triumph in one of tennis' blue riband events.

TWO STEPS SLOWER

Williams won the most recent of her Grand Slam titles at the 2017 Australian Open when she was in the early stages of her pregnancy, which led to her taking a year off from competition.

She came back with a bang in 2018 and despite not playing at her best managed to reach the final at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

"It's hard for me to bet against Serena. Look what happened last year: Two finals in Grand Slams," said ESPN tennis analyst and 18-times Grand Slam champion Chris Evert.

"The one difference that I see in Serena is since she's come back, she's been one or two steps slower than normal. I think that's a little bit of fitness. I think it's a little bit of match play. I think it's a little bit of confidence."

Healthy legs are key to any player's game but perhaps even more vital for someone like Williams who relies heavily on her physicality and court coverage to set up big shots.

Williams has been unable to deliver her trademark big serves on a consistent basis of late but will likely take comfort in the friendly confines of the All England Club given she is most effective on grass.

But unlike in her prime, Williams' rivals know she is not the same player she once was and do not walk onto the court nearly as intimated as they once were when facing one of the game's all-time greats.

"There's so many things that may be going against Serena, and she thrives on that, and she loves that, and that's when she comes through," said Evert.

"I would have said in January, if there was any Grand Slam she was going to win, it would probably be Wimbledon ... and if her serve is on, she's going to be tough to beat."

{blackbabes} Heidi Klum/Tim Gunn Amazon Fashion Series Gets Title — Naomi Campbell and Nicole Richie Among Judges

https://pmctvline2.files.wordpress.com/2019/06/making-the-cut-klum-gunn.jpg?w=550&h=770

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are ready to "make it work" at Amazon. On Wednesday, the streaming service revealed new details about their long-gestating Project Runway follow-up, including a title and a timeframe for release.

Making the Cut, which is set to debut in 2020, will bring together "12 talented entrepreneurs and designers from around the globe who are competing to take their fledging brands to the next level in becoming the next big global phenomenon," per the official logline. Designs will be shoppable on Amazon, and the winner will walk away with $1 million to invest in his or her brand — which is quadruple the $250,000 prize awarded on Runway.

In addition, Amazon has revealed a first look at Making the Cut's judging panel, which consists of supermodel Naomi Campbell (who also serves as a consulting producer), former Vogue Paris EIC Carine Roitfeld, designer Joseph Altuzarra and actress/fashion icon Nicole Richie. The photos below (click to zoom) show Klum, Gunn and the judges as they filmed their first runway challenge in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France on Tuesday.

Klum and Gunn departed Project Runway following Season 16, which marked its last season on Lifetime before returning to its original network, Bravo. The revamped Runway debuted in March and featured supermodel Karlie Kloss as host and Runway champion Christian Siriano as mentor.

{blackbabes} Federer seeded No. 2, Nadal No. 3 at Wimbledon; Serena 11th

WIMBLEDON, England — Eight-time champion Roger Federer was seeded No. 2 for Wimbledon, one spot ahead of Rafael Nadal, reversing their positions in the ATP rankings and creating a debate about whether the All England Club's seeding system should be changed.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic, the defending champion, was seeded No. 1 on Wednesday at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament, where recent results on the surface are used to help determine seedings. The other majors do not do that.

Nadal told a Spanish TV station that he doesn't think it makes sense that Wimbledon is the only tournament that uses its own seeding system. Former U.S. Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe and former player and coach Brad Gilbert tweeted that they thought Nadal should have been seeded No. 2.

The ATP's top 32 men are seeded at Wimbledon, but the order is based on a formula that gives players additional credit for ranking points earned at tournaments played on grass over the preceding two years. That allowed Federer, who won his 10th title at Halle, Germany, last week, to jump ahead of Nadal, who potentially could have to beat both Djokovic and Federer to win what would be his third championship at Wimbledon.

Nadal is coming off his record 12th title at the French Open, which is played on clay, and he did not enter any sort of tuneup event on grass this year. He rarely does.

While Nadal did reach the Wimbledon final in five consecutive appearances in the tournament from 2006-11, he had not been so successful of late until a run to the semifinals last year. From 2012-17, Nadal never made it past the fourth round at the All England Club, including one exit in the first round and a pair in the second.

Marin Cilic is seeded No. 13, ranked No. 18.' data-reactid="24">There were other examples of shifts from rankings to seedings. Last year's runner-up, Kevin Anderson, was seeded No. 4, even though he is ranked only No. 8 this week; 2018 semifinalist John Isner is seeded No. 9, ranked No. 12; 2017 runner-up Marin Cilic is seeded No. 13, ranked No. 18.

This year's women's seedings at the All England Club strictly follow the WTA rankings, so French Open champion Ash Barty is at No. 1.

Naomi Osaka is No. 2, followed by Karolina Pliskova.

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams is seeded 11th, the same place she holds in this week's rankings. A year ago, early in her return to the tour after having a baby, Williams was ranked just 183rd but seeded 25th.

She wound up reaching the final before losing to champion Angelique Kerber.

The draw is Friday; play begins Monday.

Former The Deuce star Jamie Neumann, Erica Tazel (The Good Fight) and Kingdom alum Mac Brandt are set for recurring roles opposite Jonathan Majors, Courtney B. Vance and Jurnee Smollett-Bell on HBO's upcoming straight-to-series drama Lovecraft Country, from Misha Green, Oscar winner Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions, J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot, and Warner Bros Television.

Penned by Green based on the 2016 novel from Matt Ruff, Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Freeman (Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. In addition to Majors, Vance and Smollett-Bell, the three join previously announced cast Michael Kenneth Williams, Wunmi Mosaku, Aunjanue Ellis, Abbey Lee, Jamie Harris, Jamie Chung and Jordan Patrick Smith.

Green, Peele and Sackheim executive produce, along with Bad Robot's Abrams and Ben Stephenson, Bill Carraro and Yann Demange, who directs the first episode.

{blackbabes} Brave New World Casts Kylie Bunbury, Joseph Morgan, Hannah John-Kamen

Brave New World

Brave New World's population continues to rise. USA Network's forthcoming adaptation of Aldous Huxley's classic sci-fi novel has added Pitch's Kylie Bunbury, The Originals' Joseph Morgan and Killjoys' Hannah John-Kamen in series-regular roles, Deadline reports.

Also newly cast are Nina Sosanya (Killing Eve) and Sen Mitsuji (Origin). They join previously announced stars Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) and Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones).

Huxley's novel, first published in 1932 and read by you as a teenager, is set in a futuristic utopian society "that has achieved peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself," according to the official logline. Findlay's Lenina and Lloyd's Bernard Marx are New London citizens who "have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex." Together, they set off on a vacation to the Savage Lands, "where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion." They are ultimately rescued by Ehrenreich's John the Savage, who "escapes with them back to New London" and "threatens to disrupt its utopian harmony."

Bunbury will play Lenina's best friend Frannie, a Beta Plus who has learned to embrace New London's social order, while Morgan has been cast as CJack60, an Epsilon who works a series of physically demanding jobs and bears witness to a terrifying incident. John-Kamen will play self-indulgent artist Wilhelmina "Helm" Watson, while Sosanya and Mitsuji have been cast as Henry Foster and Mustapha Mond.

A premiere date for Brave New World has not yet been announced.

The Performances, Along with the Iconic Firework Display Can Be Seen During the Two-Hour Live Telecast July 4 (8-10 p.m. ET/PT) on NBC

NEW YORK – June 13, 2019 – NBC's annual "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks® Spectacular" returns for a night of beautiful fireworks and musical performances by the biggest names in music.

NBC's "World of Dance" judge Derek Hough and Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Ciara will co-host the evening. The hosts will also wow the audience with performances of their own, Hough with a dance performance and Ciara a musical medley. Luke Bryan, Khalid from his Free Spirit World Tour, Maren Morris and Brad Paisley will also perform before the fireworks begin. The broadcast will air Thursday, July 4 (8-10 p.m. ET/PT) with an hourlong encore presentation at 10 p.m.

The 43rd annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks will ignite the night with an unparalleled barrage of color, light and sound, live from the Brooklyn Bridge. Since 1976, Macy's Fireworks have grown in scale and artistry as they burst to life over many of New York City's waterways and neighborhoods. Incorporating landmarks and celebratory milestones is a Macy's Fireworks signature. On Independence Day millions of spectators will be captivated by a stunning display of patriotic firepower, as Macy's Fireworks launch more than 70,000 shells and effects from the bridge and from four barges positioned along the shores of Pier 17 at the Seaport District. The 25-minute display will honor Independence Day and classic American Cinema and will feature a host of new shells and effects in 28 colors including crackling rain shells, patriotic chasing crossettes, howling wolves, screaming dragons, silver twisters, diamond screamers and a dramatic 1,600-foot waterfall. The musical score is the basis for the fireworks choreography and this year it features patriotic classics such as "America the Beautiful" and "Stars & Stripes Forever," along with world-famous instrumentals from classic American films. From John Williams' famed title compositions for "Star Wars," "Superman" and "E.T." to Max Steiner's "Casablanca Suite" and Alfred Newman's "20th Century Fox Fanfare;" audiences will be humming along to the score as the fireworks paint the night sky in perfect synchronicity. With MGM's The Wizard of Oz turning 80 this year, Macy's Fireworks pre-recorded score will also feature Oscar® and Grammy® Award winning artist Jennifer Hudson performing its most beloved song "Over the Rainbow." The tribute will mark the show's visual and emotional centerpiece.

"NBC is proud to once again partner with Macy's on what is always a spectacular Fourth of July celebration," said Doug Vaughan, Executive Vice President, Specials & Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment. "We have a lineup of A-list performers and an incredible fireworks extravaganza that is the biggest in the country."

The "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks® Spectacular" telecast is a production of Universal Television in association with Macy's. It is produced by Brad Lachman Productions with Lachman serving as executive producer. Bill Bracken is a co-executive producer.

Lachman's credits include a variety of NBC specials, including the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade," "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" and "NBC's 90th Anniversary Special" in addition to "Michael Bublé's Christmas Special" for five holiday seasons.

{blackbabes} ‘Manhunt: Lone Wolf’: Arliss Howard, Desmond Harrington, Kelly Jenrette & Ness Bautista Join Spectrum-Lionsgate Anthology Series

Arliss Howard, Desmond Harrington, Kelly Jenrette, Ness Bautista

Arliss Howard (Moneyball), Desmond Harrington (Dexter), Kelly Jenrette (The Handmaid's Tale) and Ness Bautista (Sense8) are set as series regulars for season 2 of Spectrum Originals' anthology series Manhunt, from Lionsgate Television. They join previously announced Jack Huston, Cameron Britton, Carla Gugino, Judith Light, Gethin Anthony and Jay O. Sanders.

Spectrum parent Charter Communications last year made a deal with Lionsgate for new seasons of the Manhunt anthology series whose first installment, Manhunt: Unabomber, ran on Discovery Channel.

Season 2, Manhunt: Lone Wolf, will chronicle one of the largest and most complex manhunts on U.S. soil — the search for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Bomber, Eric Rudolph (Huston) — and the media firestorm that consumed the life of Richard Jewell (Britton) in its wake. The series is currently filming in Pittsburgh, PA.

Howard plays Earl Embry, the top bomb expert in the ATF who has a depth of hands-on knowledge that nobody can rival. He is determined to catch the Olympic bomber, despite the best efforts of the FBI to chase Embry off the case.

Harrington portrays Louis Freeh, the hard-charging head of the FBI who steered the Bureau through turbulent political waters with a combination of toughness, media savvy and iron-fisted loyalty.

Jenrette is Stacey Knox, an FBI Supervisory Special Agent and Brennan's partner, who is second in command of the FBI team sent to take point in the Atlanta bombing.

Bautista plays Joe Holliwell, Embry's partner and an ATF "lab rat" with a PhD in Chemistry who soaks up Embry's hard-earned wisdom.

Known for films such as Moneyball, Jurassic Park: The Lost World and Full Metal Jacket, Howard will be seen in the upcoming Dandelion with Mare Winningham. His recent television credits include ABC's When We Rise, HBO's True Blood and Rubicon for ABC.

Harrington is perhaps best known for his six-year run as Joey Quinn on Showtime's hit series Dexter He more recently appeared in Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon opposite Elle Fanning and recurred on the USA series Shooter, Amazon's Sneaky Pete and CBS' Elementary.

Jenrette received an outstanding guest actress Emmy nomination for The Handmaid's Tale. She will also be seen in Facebook Watch's upcoming series Limetown, starring Jessica Biel and in a co-starring role in Netflix feature Uncorked. Kelly is repped by Mitchell K. Stubbs & Associates, Robyn Bluestone Management & attorney Matt Rosen.

Bautista recently wrapped LA's Finest for Spectrum, recurred heavily on the Wachowski's Netflix series Sense8, and also recurred on The Catch and Daytime Divas. Ness also recurred heavily on the TNT series The Last Ship. His feature work includes Star Trek: Beyond and the Ashton Kutcher feature Jobs. Bautista is repped by APA and Art/Work Entertainment.
