{blackbabes} Serena thanks unborn baby after returning to world number one

LONDON (Reuters) - Serena Williams returned to the top of the WTA world rankings on Monday and immediately shared the news with her unborn baby.

The American, who is skipping the rest of the year after announcing last week that she was pregnant, took to social media to offer her first public thoughts on impending motherhood.

"My Dearest Baby, You gave me the strength I didn't know I had. You taught me the true meaning of serenity and peace," the 35-year-old who owns 23 grand slam titles, said on Instagram.

"I can't wait to meet you. I can't wait for you to join the players box next year," she continues.

"But most importantly, I am so happy to share being number one in the world with you... once again today. From the world's oldest number one to the world's youngest number one. - Your Mommy."

Williams set off a day of frenzied speculation last Wednesday with a selfie posted on social media -- posing for a photo in a yellow one-piece swimsuit on Snapchat -- with the caption "20 weeks".

She deleted the post shortly afterwards but her Los Angeles-based publicist Kelly Bush Novak later confirmed that the player, who is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, was indeed expecting her first child.

It seems likely she was several weeks pregnant when she won this year's Australian Open to move to within one grand slam title of matching Australian Margaret Court's record of 24.

Her message on Monday appears to underline her resolve to return to action next year.

Despite not having played since January when she moved ahead of Steffi Graf as the most successful tennis player in the professional era by beating sister Venus in the Australian Open final, she replaced Germany's Angelique Kerber as world number one in the rankings on Monday.

{blackbabes} Spokesperson confirms Serena pregnancy

It's another love game for Serena Williams: She is pregnant — and, based on the timeline she offered, she already was when she won the Australian Open.

A spokeswoman for Serena Williams says the tennis star is pregnant.

Kelly Bush Novak wrote in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday: "I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this Fall."

Earlier in the day, Williams posted a photo of herself on the social media site Snapchat with the caption "20 weeks."

The 35-year-old Williams won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open in January — a little less than 12 weeks ago — and has not competed since, citing a knee injury when withdrawing from tournaments at Indian Wells, California, and Key Biscayne, Florida.

She announced in late December that she was engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Williams would appear to be out for the rest of this tennis season, a blow to a sport in which she is an unqualified star — and, of course, something that makes major titles easier to come by for other competitors. The next major tournament is the French Open, which starts on May 28. Wimbledon begins in early July, and the U.S. Open in late August.

There is recent precedent for tennis players to return to action after becoming a mother. Kim Clijsters retired briefly to start a family, then came back to action and won Grand Slam titles. Another former No. 1 and major champion, Victoria Azarenka, has announced she'll be getting back on tour soon after having a baby.

Williams' 23 Grand Slam singles titles are a record for the Open era, which began in 1968 — she broke a tie with Steffi Graf in Australia. Only one woman has won more: Margaret Smith Court, who claimed part of her 24 during the amateur era.

{blackbabes} Life-Size Sequel, Starring Tyra Banks, Coming to Freeform as Holiday Event

Freeform wants you to shine bright, shine far and be a star all over again.

In advance of its upfront presentation on Wednesday, the network announced a sequel to Life-Size, the 2000 movie about a doll (played by Tyra Banks) that comes to life after a young girl (Lindsay Lohan) attempts to resurrect her mother via a magic spell.

Along with serving as an executive producer, Banks will reprise her role as living-doll Eve in the movie — appropriately titled Life-Size 2 — which will air as part of Freeform's "25 Days of Christmas" lineup in 2018. Here's a quick synopsis of the holiday sequel:

In the sequel, everyone's favorite doll Eve has grown up. This time, she's magically awoken to help a young woman learn to live and love again, and along the way, Eve herself will experience the ups and downs of real life in a fun, edgy, modern Christmas movie.

Curiously, the synopsis doesn't reveal the name of the young woman in question. (I know it's a long shot, but I'm crossing my fingers that it's a grown-up version of Lohan's character, even if she isn't played by Lohan herself.)

{blackbabes} Serena Williams Is Pregnant With Her First Child, Shares Photo of Baby Bump

Serena Williams, Baby Bump, Pregnant

Congrats to Serena Williams!

The 35-year-old greatest active female tennis star and 23-time Grand Slam champion revealed Wednesday she is pregnant with her first child. She posted on her Snapchat a selfie of her showcasing her baby bump in a yellow one-piece swimsuit, with the caption "20 weeks."

Serena had revealed in late December on Reddit that she is engaged to the social network's co-founder Alexis Ohanian, 33.

The two have recently been vacationing in Tulum, Mexico—guess you could call it a babymoon!

Serena recently posted on her Instagram page a sweet photo of her fiancé smiling while carrying her on a beach, writing, "My only regret is not pointing my toe sorry coach Garry."

The tennis star concealed her baby bump in a white top, paired with light blue denim cutoff jeans and a light gray coat.

She appeared to offer a pregnancy hint over the weekend, posting a selfie showing her looking tired and writing, "Fighting to get up this morning."

{blackbabes} ‘Underground’s Aisha Hinds Boards ‘Godzilla: King Of The Monsters’

Aisha Hinds has signed on to co-star in Legendary/Warner Bros' upcoming sequel Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, with Michael Dougherty at the helm. The actress, who is getting positive reviews for her turn as Harriet Tubman on WGN America's Underground, joins Stranger Things break-out star Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Ken Watanabe and O'Shea Jackson Jr.

Plot details remain under wraps on the film, which Dougherty co-wrote with Zach Shields. WB is releasing it in theaters on March 22, 2019. The first installment following Legendary/WB launch of a new monster universe, Kong: Skull Island, pulled in $61M in its opening weekend.

In addition to Underground, Hinds can currently be seen in Fox's event series Shots Fired and recently co-starred opposite Bryan Cranston and Anthony Mackie in the HBO biopic All The Way. She's repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency and attorney Jeff Bernstein.

{blackbabes} Janelle Monae to address Dillard’s grads

Grammy-nominated singer and actor Janelle Monae will deliver the 2017 commencement address at Dillard University next month.

The university will confer more than 160 undergraduate degrees on Saturday, May 13, at 8 a.m.

Monae, who's known for her activism against social injustices and police brutality, is also an advocate for STEM, programs that promote the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Dillard President Walter M. Kimbrough says he pursued Monae for more than a year to get her to agree to deliver the commencement address. He says they're "very excited to see this day come."

Last year, Monae began Fem the Future, an initiative to create more opportunities to advance opportunities for women through music, arts, mentorship and education. In 2015, she launched her own record label, Wondaland Records.

{blackbabes} Queen Latifah, Betsy Brandt, Jill Scott & Marin Ireland To Star In Lifetime’s Flint Water Crisis Movie

Directed by Bruce Beresford from a script by Barbara Stepansky, Flint was inspired by the Time magazine cover story, "The Toxic Tap," by Josh Sanburn. It follows the true story of three women from Flint who sought justice following the wrongdoing committed against the residents of the city who were unknowingly drinking and using lead-laden water. Their actions inspired a national movement for safe drinking water despite the political powers working against them at every turn. Brandt, Scott and Ireland will play real-life activists and Latifah will play a fourth resident, fighting to expose the poisoning of the community during the horrific events of the water crisis.

Cher was previously attached to star in and executive produce but pulled out last month citing a serious family issue that prevents her from leaving Los Angeles. Flint begins production next week in Toronto.

Zadan and Meron of Storyline Entertainment and Couric executive produce alongside Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere via their Flavor Unit. Storyline's Mark Nicholson serves as co-executive producer.

Breaking Bad alumna Brandt, now one of the stars of the CBS comedy series Life In Pieces, is repped by TalentWorks, Patty Woo management and attorney John Moonves.

{blackbabes} UnREAL Adds Tracie Thoms as Quinn's Lesbian Friend for Season 3

Tracie Thoms Cast UnREAL Season 3 Lifetime Fiona

Quinn is getting a friend — yes, Quinn has friends — in UnREAL's upcoming third season.

Cold Case veteran Tracie Thoms is joining the cast of Lifetime's Bachelor-skewering drama series in a recurring role, our sister site Deadline is reporting. She'll play Fiona, an entertainment executive whose friendship with Everlasting producer Quinn (Constance Zimmer) goes back decades. And she won't be competing with Quinn for men, either: The description calls her "a fun-loving, gorgeous gay woman with swagger."

UnREAL is looking to bounce back from a disappointing sophomore season by shaking up the format: Masters of Sex's Caitlin FitzGerald will join the cast as the first female suitor in Everlasting history, choosing from a bevy of eligible hunks. Season 3 doesn't have a premiere date yet, but it's expected to debut sometime this summer.

Thoms spent five seasons on the CBS procedural Cold Case as detective Kat Miller. She also had roles on Fox's short-lived cult hit Wonderfalls and NBC's Harry's Law. Recently, she appeared in the first two seasons of the Netflix comedy Love.

{blackbabes} Why Janelle Monae thinks women should withhold sex

Janelle Monae is ready to withhold sex "until every man is fighting for" women's rights, she says.

"People have to start respecting the vagina," Monae, 31, told Marie Claire. "Until every man is fighting for our rights, we should consider stopping having sex. I love men. But evil men? I will not tolerate that. You don't deserve to be in my presence."

In fact, she wants all women to consider taking the same action. The concept is the premise of the ancient Greek comedy "Lysistrata" and most recently in Spike Lee's 2015 film "Chiraq."

She's calling for men everywhere to participate in change and work for equality. "We have to realize our power and our magic," Monae said. "Because I am all about black girl magic, even though I'm standing with all women. But this year? This year, I am so carefree black girl."

Monae is rejecting societal norms and blazing her own way.

"Women automatically are told that this how you should look," she started. "This is how you should get a man. This is how you should get a woman. You need to fit into all these boxes to be accepted. I don't subscribe to that way of thinking. I don't think we all have to take the same coordinates to reach the same destination."

Through her music, style and film roles she's chosen, Monae has carved out her own niche.

"I believe in embracing what makes you unique even if it makes others uncomfortable," she said. "I have learned there is power in saying no. I have agency. I get to decide."

{blackbabes} Mariah Carey renews Epic Records deal

Epic Records has recommitted to Mariah Carey, announcing Monday a new joint partnership between the singer's Butterfly MC Records and the Sony Music Entertainment label as well as a long-awaited studio album due out "later this year." Terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

The deal seemingly puts to rest rumors that Carey's recording contract was in jeopardy. The five-time Grammy winner was signed by Epic Records chairman-CEO LA Reid in 2016, with whom she worked on 2005's multi-platinum-selling album "The Emancipation of Mimi" (recorded and released while Reid was running Universal Music label Island Def Jam).

Carey launched her career at Sony's Columbia Records in 1990, when she scored the first of her five consecutive Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits ("Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time," "Someday," "I Don't Wanna Cry" and "Emotions").

Said Reid in a statement: "To continue working with Mariah Carey at Epic has been another rewarding chapter of my career. Mariah's incomparable talents as a singer, with her vocal range that is nothing short of legendary, are matched by her brilliance as a songwriter, producer, and performer par excellence. Mariah's chart records have established her enduring place in music history, a position that is cherished and supported by her loyal fans worldwide. I look forward to building upon all of Mariah's success for years to come."

Added Carey: "I am putting my heart and soul into making more new music. I am so thrilled for this next chapter and to continue working with, and for, everyone that I love."

The partnership comes on the heels of several headline-grabbing months for Carey. In December, the singer launched "Mariah's World," a docuseries on E!; famously endured technical complications live on ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest"; broke off her engagement to Australian billionaire James Packer; and announced, then postponed, a tour with Lionel Richie. Carey is also headlining a Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, to which she's set to return in July.

{blackbabes} Simon Cowell ‘convinced’ Mel B to divorce Stephen Belafonte

Simon Cowell may have been the push Mel B needed to finally leave Stephen Belafonte.

Mel, 41, filed for divorce from Belafonte in March after nearly a decade of marriage, and has claimed that Belafonte physically abused her, sexually exploited her and got their nanny pregnant.

Cowell — who has worked with Mel on "X Factor," "America's Got Talent" and "Britain's Got Talent" — urged her to leave Belafonte, calling him "bad news" and "a bad guy," sources close to the former Spice Girl told TMZ.

Insiders told the site that Mel had previously attempted to leave Belafonte, but that she largely credits Cowell, 57, with giving her the courage to pack up for good.

On Friday, the sharp-tongued judge hinted that he was impressed with Mel's handling of the split.

"She's an incredible person. If you think about what Mel's done since leaving the Spice Girls and what she's gone through, how hard she works and how I saw her try to handle this situation, it was astonishing," he told The Sun. "She's under pressure but I think she's in a good place … she's had the whole thing she's had to deal with, the other side of her personal life. It really made me think about her as a person, what she's achieved as a working mum and how she's managed to balance everything."

Belafonte has denied Mel's allegations against him, and has also requested joint legal and physical custody of the couple's daughter, Madison, as well as spousal support.

Another of Mel's fellow "X Factor" judges, Sharon Osbourne, spoke out about the abuse allegations on "The Talk" last week, calling Belafonte a "bully."

"Three years ago, in the final two days of 'X Factor,' she didn't make the first day and she was in the hospital," Osbourne, 64, claimed. "It was reported in all the papers that said 'allegedly' she's been beaten by her husband. And she came back for the final day and she had a black eye and bruising everywhere … This has been brewing and people talking for a very, very long time."

{blackbabes} Venus Williams on Maria Sharapova: 'It will be nice to have her back in the game'

Venus Williams has revealed that she supports Maria Sharapova upon her return to tennis from a doping ban.

The Russian tennis star will return to action soon after serving a 15 month doping ban for testing positive for meldonium at the 2016 Australian Open.

Sharapova will feature at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany which begins on 24 April after she received a wild card.

The 29-year-old has also accepted two more wild cards to participate in the Mutua Madrid Open and Italian Open in May, however, she has not been handed any for the upcoming British grass-court events as of yet.

An issue which is dividing the sport, many fellow tennis professionals believe that Sharapova should not be receiving wild cards at all and instead, work her way back.

Former world number one Williams, however, like Boris Becker, is in support of Sharapova and thinks that she should be allowed to continue her career.

"I feel like I have perspective in life, and sometimes things happen," Williams said, as quoted on TennisWorldUSA. "I just think one single thing in life doesn't define you."

"I think the bodies have made their decision, and she has an opportunity to come back and continue her career. I think she should be allowed to continue that."

Referring to the wild cards, Williams stated that it was the tournaments' decision in the end, before saying "it will be nice" to have Sharapova — who she has defeated three times in eight meetings — back in tennis action.

"If people want to give her wild cards, I guess that's the tournaments' decision as they weigh other wild cards," she added. "It will be nice to have her back in the game."

{blackbabes} Nia Long Joins Terrence Howard In ‘Life In A Year’ In ‘Empire’ Mini-Reunion

On Empire this season, Nia Long may play the best female foe Taraji P. Henson's Cookie Lyon has ever had but she's now going to be Terrence Howard's wife in Life In A Year. The Oscar nominated Hustle & Flow actor, of course, portrays Cookie's ex-husband  and music mogul Lucious Lyon on the Fox hit.

The Best Man alum is taking on the role of "Catherine" in the YA romantic drama, I've learned. The character is the spouse of Howard's no-nonsense patriarch and the supportive mother of Jaden Smith's Daryn. The filming in Toronto movie centers on 17-year old Daryn's love for his cancer diagnosed girlfriend Isabelle, played by Cara Delavigne, and his desire to make the little time they have left together as rich and fulfilling as possible.

Besides the Empire reunion of sorts, Long will be also working with her on-screen Fresh Prince of Bel Air boyfriend of a couple of decades ago. Will Smith is producing the Mitja Okorn directed pic for Sony and Overbrook Entertainment along with his business partner James Lassiter and Marc Bienstock.

As well as playing the scheming club owner Giuliana on Fox's hip hop family blockbuster and in the Lifetime Beaches remake that aired in January, Long appears on the big screen this year in the Sundance premiering Lemon and Roxanne Roxanne, which Deadline exclusively revealed in January that Neon picked up out of the Robert Redford founded fest. The actor is also set to topline The Goldbergs spinoff pilot in the works at ABC.

Long is repped by CAA, Primary Wave Entertainment and attorneys at Meyer & Downs.

{blackbabes} Siegemund outlasts Venus Williams in 3 sets at Volvo Open

Siegemund outlasts Venus Williams in 3 sets at Volvo Open

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Laura Siegemund of Germany beat Venus Williams 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-5 on Wednesday to win her second three-set match in three days and move on to the third round at the Volvo Car Open.

Down match point in the second set, Williams broke Siegemund as she served for the match and rallied to easily win the ensuing tie-breaker to set up the decisive third set. Williams was poised to complete the comeback, but Siegemund twice pulled back from a break and saved two match points as Williams served for the victory at 5-4, winning the final three games to reach the round of 16.

''I tried to keep up the pressure and tried to dominate the game as well as I could,'' Siegemund said. ''I think I worked my way well through the match. It was a close match, you know, it can go either way. I just tried to believe in my game, and if I was down, I told myself I was going to get more chances.''

Williams could only ponder what might have been.

''I tried my best to think this could be the best match she'll ever play in her life, honestly,'' Williams said. ''I basically won the match but still lost.''

Elsewhere, Russian Daria Kasatkina outlasted Puerto Rican Olympic champion Monica Puig 6-0, 6-7 (3), 6-2, and Shelby Rogers upset Madison Keys 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

''I mean, she was all over my serve today,'' Keys said. ''I felt like that let me down, and I think she served well. And I feel like I just stopped doing what I should have. I feel like I did a pretty good job to get back in the first set, and I feel like I just stopped doing it. Then it kind of all slipped away from me pretty quick.''

Kasatkina, who came close to making the semifinals here last year, hit 19 winners with 18 unforced errors to finally escape after just over 2 hours on court. Puig hit more winners (25) but also had 41 errors, including on match point.

In other matches, Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko defeated Greece's Maria Sakkari in three sets and Hungarian Fanny Stollar stunned No.4 seed Elena Vesnina, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (3). Vesnina, of Russia, twice led a by a break in the opening set but struggled to convert break points. Stollar hit 13 aces to keep in front for most of the match.

Also: Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia, defeated Germany's Andrea Petkovic 6-3, 6-4; Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, defeated Magda Linette of Poland 6-4, 6-4; Daria Gavrilova of Australia defeated American Alison Riske 6-3, 6-1; Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands defeated Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-2, 7-5; Mirjana Lucic-Baroni of Croatia defeated Mona Barthel of Germany, 6-3, 6-2; Japan's Naomi Osaka defeated Zhang Shuai of China 6-4, 6-4; Anastasia Rodionova of Australia defeated Sara Errani of Italy 6-2, 6-2; Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania, defeated Kristina Kucova of Slovakia 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6); Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States 6-3, 6-3.
