{blackbabes} Topless, singing Serena sparks internet breast cancer stir

Sydney (AFP) - Tennis superstar Serena Williams caused an internet sensation Sunday by posing topless for a video while singing "I Touch Myself" to raise awareness for breast cancer.

In the Instagram video, Williams covers her breasts with her hands while singing a version of Australian band The Divinyls' 1991 hit in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia.

"This Breast Cancer Awareness Month I've recorded a version of The Divinyls global hit 'I Touch Myself' to remind women to self-check regularly," wrote Williams on the post.

"Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it because it's an issue that affects all women of all colors, all around the world. Early detection is key -- it saves so many lives."

The song was co-written by Divinyls Australian vocalist Chrissy Amphlett who died of breast cancer five years ago aged 53.

"The music video is part of the I Touch Myself Project which was created in honor of celebrated diva, Chrissy Amphlett, who passed away from breast cancer, and who gave us her hit song to remind women to put their health first," said the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

The video was viewed more than 1.3 million times in the first 10 hours after it was posted early Sunday with fans lauding the tennis superstar for her bravery in performing the song.

"Amazing Serena, important message and such a beautiful voice!" wrote one under the username deedpaula.

Another alshaze47 commented: "This is powerful!! I'm a Breast cancer survivor!!"

The video appeared less than three weeks after her tempestuous US Open final defeat to Naomi Osaka, where Williams smashed a racquet and accused an umpire of sexism.

Williams, who celebrated her 37th birthday four days ago, pulled out of this week's China Open in Beijing to bring a premature end to her 2018 season, her first back on tour since giving birth to a daughter a year ago.

{blackbabes} Serena Williams withdraws from China Open, ending 2018 season in familiar fashion

Serena Williams has officially wrapped up her 2018 season.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion has withdrawn from the China Open in Beijing next week, which was set to be her final tournament of the year.

The decision to withdraw, though, likely has little to do with the ending to her controversial match at the U.S. Open earlier this month. This year marks the fourth-straight that the 37-year-old has declined to play in a tournament following the U.S. Open, making it almost a routine move for her at this point.

Williams has not played since her controversial match against Naomi Osaka in the U.S. Open Final earlier this month in New York. Williams fell to Osaka 6-2, 6-4, and was assessed three code of conduct violations in the match. Williams repeatedly argued with the umpire who assessed the penalties, and later said that they were unfair and only assessed because she is a woman.

Williams has won the China Open twice in her career — once at the inaugural event in 2004 and again in 2013. She has not competed there since 2014, when she reached the semifinals.

Williams, who is currently ranked No. 16 in the world, will likely take the court next at the Australian Open in January. She missed the event last year, declining to defend her 2017 title there shortly after giving birth to her child just months prior to the tournament.

She compiled a 18-6 record in 2018, reaching the final round at both the U.S. Open and at Wimbledon.

{blackbabes} ‘Unbelievable’: Vanessa Bell Calloway To Recur On Netflix Drama Series

Vanessa Bell Calloway is set for a recurring role in Unbelievable, an eight-episode Netflix limited series from Erin Brockovich writer Susannah Grant, CBS TV Studios, studio-based producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly (Masters of Sex, Elementary) and Katie Couric.

Co-written by Grant, who will serve as showrunner, Michael Chabon (John Carter) & Ayelet Waldman (Applebaum), Unbelievable is based on The Marshall Project and ProPublica Pulitzer Prize-winning December 2015 article, "An Unbelievable Story of Rape," written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong, and the "This American Life" radio episode about the same case, "Anatomy of Doubt." It tells the true story of Marie, a teenager who was charged with lying about having been raped, and the two female detectives who followed a twisting path to arrive at the truth.

As with all characters on Unbelievable, details of Calloway's role are not being disclosed.

Grant, Chabon, Waldman, Timberman, Beverly and Couric executive produce.

Calloway plays the lead role of Lady Ella Johnson on Bounce's Saints & Sinners and also directs. On the film side she was most recently seen in a starring role opposite Vince Vaughn and Mel Gibson in Dragged Across Concrete, which screened at the 2018 Venice Film Festival, and in Unbroken: Path to Redemption. She's repped by Zero Gravity Management.

{blackbabes} ‘Birds Of Prey’ Cast: Mary Elizabeth Winstead Wins Role Of Huntress; Jurnee Smollett-Bell Is Black Canary

Warner Bros. has made their decision on the roles of Huntress and Black Canary in their next anticipated DC movie Birds of Prey, coming out on Feb. 7, 2020: Fargo and 10 Cloverfield Lane actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has won the role of Huntress while Underground actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell will play Black Canary. They join Margot Robbie who reprises her Suicide Squad role of Harley Quinn in a Gotham that isn't protected by Batman. The femmes will battle a crime lord who has yet to be announced.

Black Canary aka Dinah Lance is a street fighter known for her shrieking cry. Huntress has taken different forms in the DC Universe, though in the WB series Birds of Prey, she was the daughter of Batman, who disappeared after the death of her mother, Catwoman. The Huntress in this series worked with Oracle and Black Canary's daughter as the primary crimefighters in Gotham City. In the movie, Huntress is a former mafia princess, who like Batman, saw her family killed at a young age, hence why she became a vigilante. Buzz is that Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl isn't in the feature; she appeared in the WB early aughts series.

As Deadline previously reported, Winstead was up against Sofia Boutella, Cristin Milioti, and Margaret Qualley for the part of Huntress. For Black Canary it was between Smollett-Bell and Belle's Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The role of Rene Montoya has yet to be decided and One Day at a Time's Justina Machado and Vida's Roberta Colindrez are in the mix. Montoya is a lesbian detective on the Gotham City police force.

Winstead is repped by WME and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner & Klein while Smollet-Bell is repped by ICM and Management 360 and attorney Nina Shaw.

Robbie is producing, with Sue Kroll, and Bryan Unkeless of Clubhouse Pictures. Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) wrote the script. Cathy Yan is directing, which Deadline exclusively reported back in April.  Yan becomes the third female filmmaker to join the DC club after Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins and Ava DuVernay (for upcoming The New Gods), and the first female Asian director ever tapped to direct a superhero film. Much like Wonder Woman which won women over as the first title female superhero to hit the big screen, Birds of Prey looks to be another tentpole poised to stoke that fanbase once again. Wonder Women set records as the biggest live-action feature from a female filmmaker grossing $821.8M at the WW box office and becoming stateside with north of $412.5M, the highest grossing movie of summer 2017.

{blackbabes} Nicki Minaj Pays 'Cosby' Actor Geoffrey Owens $25k, He Gives it to Charity

Nicki Minaj has paid up her promised $25,000 to former 'Cosby Show' actor Geoffrey Owens, and he's taking the money ... and paying it forward.

Sources tell us Nicki's team recently reached out and sent a check to Owens. You'll remember, Nicki vowed on her 'Queen Radio' show to give him $25k in response to someone attempting to shame him with a pic of him working at Trader Joe's.

Owens made the decision to donate the money, in full, to a cause near and dear to his heart and acting career.

Geoffrey tells us, "I would like to give this donation of 25k to the Actor's Fund in memory of the late, great Earle Hyman -- who played Cosby's father, 'Russell', on "The Cosby Show" -- who lived his last many years and died at the Actors' Home, (funded and run by the Actor's Fund). I am extremely grateful to Nicki Minaj for enabling struggling actors to continue pursuing their dreams."

Nicki seems to share Owens' appreciation, telling us, "I'm happy to be a part of a great cause. I wish Geoffrey much success and want him to know how loved he is. Rest in Peace to Earle Hyman."

TMZ broke the story ... Owens has gotten a wave of job offers since the photo surfaced, the most significant being a 10-episode gig on Tyler Perry's "The Haves and the Have Nots."

{blackbabes} Tamron Hall Daytime Talk Show Set For Fall 2019 Launch With ABC Stations Deal

Former Today co-host Tamron Hall is officially heading to daytime TV. Disney ABC has cleared the new syndicated daytime talk show hosted by Hall on the ABC Owned Television Stations Group for fall 2019. The project had been in the works at Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International for the past few months.

This is the second new first-tun syndicated series cleared for next fall, joining NBCU's The Kelly Clarkson Show. Both are talk shows, a genre that has been hard to crack for newcomers lately, leading to a slew of high-profile casualties, and both have been picked up by stations affiliated with the production and distribution company.

It is unclear where the Tamron Hall show will air the ABC stations. Depending on the market, I hear it may replace veteran Rachel Ray, which currently airs on three of the eight ABC stations, or Right This Minute.

The ABC Owned Television Stations Group includes WABC-TV in New York; KABC-TV in Los Angeles; WLS-TV in Chicago; WPVI-TV in Philadelphia; KGO-TV in San Francisco; KTRK-TV in Houston; WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; and KFSN-TV in Fresno, California. The eight stations represent 23% of the country's television households and will serve as the show's launch group.

"We're excited to bring Tamron Hall to our ABC Owned Stations next fall and are confident she'll be a unique and welcome voice in daytime," said Wendy McMahon, president, ABC Owned Television Stations Group. "Tamron is refreshingly authentic and approachable. She genuinely cares about people, their struggles and their triumphs. We know she'll connect with our audiences in a personal and positive way."

Hall previously hosted Investigation Discovery's Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall. She also was responsible for the Guns On Campus: Tamron Hall Investigates special and was a co-host of the NBC News team's Today and the anchor of MSNBC Live with Tamron Hall. Prior to joining MSNBC in July 2007, Hall spent 10 years at WFLD in Chicago, where she held a number of positions including general assignment reporter, consumer reporter and host of the three-hour Fox News in the Morning program.

"I'm thrilled to partner with the ABC Owned Television Stations Group to bring our show – which will aim to showcase real joy and laughter, as well as inspiration in the face of adversity – to audiences across the country," said Tamron Hall. "Having grown up professionally as a local news reporter and anchor, I know that it's vital to tell stories that reflect local communities. I couldn't be more humbled to return to daytime television backed by such a phenomenal team at an iconic company. The best daytime TV is the kind where you listen before you talk, and with my partners at Disney|ABC, that's what we'll deliver next fall!"

{blackbabes} Teyonah Parris, Jahi Winston To Star In ’12 O’Clock Boys’; Angel Manuel Soto Directing Film From Sony & Overbrook

Teyonah Parris (AMC's Mad Men, Empire), Jahi Winston (Netflix's Everything Sucks!, The New Edition Story), and Will Catlett (OWN's Love Is__, Black Lightning) are attached to star in the dirt-bike drama, 12 O'Clock Boys, with Puerto Rican filmmaker Angel Manuel Soto at the helm. Moonlight's Barry Jenkins wrote the initial draft for the script, while Sherman Payne did the rewrites.

Jada Pinkett Smith, Caleeb Pinkett, Marc Bienstock, and Clarence Hammond of Overbrook Entertainment are producing the pic with Sony serving as the studio. Filming will begin next month.

The film is based on the Lotfy Nathan-directed documentary of the same title. It follows Mouse, a young boy who wants nothing more than to be a part of the Midnight Clique, a tough group of Baltimore bike riders who rule the summertime streets. As he navigates the challenges of coming of age in a complicated world, he learns the hard way that the choices you make early on can change your life forever.

Winston, who was discovered after a nationwide casting search led by Mary Vernieu and Lindsay Graham of Betty Mae, Inc, will play the lead role of Mouse, with Parris playing his mother, Teri. The mother-son dynamic is important in the film. Catlett will portray Detective Rivers.

Parris can be seen in the upcoming Jenkins' film If Beale Street Could Talk, and recently wrapped shooting on Netflix's Point Blank remake with Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo. Winston was just seen opposite Taraji P. Henson in Sony's Proud Mary and appears in The Upside, the remake of the 2011 French film The Intouchables with Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart. Catlett is coming off of a successful first season with Love Is___, which was recently picked up for Season 2.

Parris is repped by CAA and Fox Rothschild; Winston by Abrams Artist Agency and attorney Ryan LeVine; Catlett by CAA, KD Talent, Bold Talent, and attorney Terrence Williams.

Soto made his feature debut in 2015 with La Granja (The Farm) and recently directed Dinner Party, a VR experience that premiered at the New Frontier section of Sundance 2018. He is repped by CAA and Circle of Confusion.

Bull's Veronica West and Sarah Kuscerka are penning the series and they duo will serve as EPs alongside Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

The Disney streaming service — which is slated to launch in late 2019 — is also readying a live-action Star Wars series, a High School Musical series, a Monster's Inc.-related project and a number of standalone limited series featuring supporting characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last February, Disney CEO Bob Iger the service will be priced "substantially below" the $10.99 that Netflix charges monthly, "because we'll have substantially less volume."

{blackbabes} Vivica A. Fox says #MeToo shouldn't be used 'as an excuse to take down people'

Vivica A. Fox has blasted those who have used the #metoo movement "as an excuse to take down people".

Since the movement began, stars such as Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey have been accused of sexual abuse or misconduct, with women using the hashtag to spread their stories. And while she has praised those who have been brave enough to come forward with their experiences,

Independence Day star Vivica told Fox News that there are also false rumours being started.

"I'm happy about the #MeToo movement for the simple fact that it brought exposure to those who were abusing their power," she said. "However, I'm not happy with those who are using the #MeToo movement to be an excuse to take down people… It takes two to tango."

Vivica first started in the film and movie industry in the late '80s and has since starred in movies such as Kill Bill: Vol 1 and TV shows like Empire. And while many other actresses found starting a career in Hollywood the point at which when they were taken advantage of, Vivica managed to avoid such situations."I've been fortunate that it hasn't happened in my career," she said. "I can't say I haven't been hit on. I just tried to make better choices. But I respect those that speak out and I'm all about women's empowerment, and not being taken advantage of.

"And it doesn't happen just in show business. It happens in a lot of different genres. You've got to do the work. If someone is trying to offer you an opportunity through the casting couch, don't do it!"

{blackbabes} Serena Williams says she and Meghan Markle ‘are relying on each other a lot’

Serena Williams knows she can always count on pal Meghan Markle to have her back.

Discussing her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex in an interview with Australia's "The Project," which took place three days after her US Open defeat, Williams, 36, said she and Markle, 37, stay in touch regularly.

"We were actually just texting each other this morning," revealed the tennis ace.

"We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently," she added.

After reportedly meeting in 2010, Williams' bond with Markle continued to grow over the years. In May, the athlete and husband Alexis Ohanian attended the former "Suits" star's wedding to Prince Harry, a moment Williams believes will have a lasting impact.

"To have such a monumental moment in England, nonetheless of all the places, I felt like we were literally watching history," Williams said of the royal nuptials. "I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it's going to be so historic. It's going to be something that people never forget. The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy. And I think that's what happened."

While Markle supported Williams at Wimbledon over the summer, the newest member of the royal family missed her friend's outburst on the court at the Open earlier this month.

Williams exploded on chair umpire Carlos Ramos after being penalized for getting coached on the side by her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. She believes she was unfairly treated because of her sex.

"I just don't understand … if you're a female, you should be able to do even half of what a guy can do," she said.

{blackbabes} ‘Godfather Of Harlem’: Antoinette Crowe-Legacy Joins Forest Whitaker Epix Series

Newcomer Antoinette Crowe-Legacy has been cast in a major role opposite Forest Whitaker in Godfather of Harlem, Epix's straight-to-series crime drama, starring and executive produced by Whitaker. The series hails from Narcos co-creator Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, and ABC Signature Studios. Vincent D'Onofrio and Ilfenesh Hadera also star.

Written and executive produced by Brancato and Eckstein, Godfather of Harlem tells the true story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from ten years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control. {blackbabes} Online petitions decry USTA's 'sexism,' 'racism' following Serena Williams controversy

A pair of online petitions supporting Serena Williams in her fight against sexism have gained more than 20,000 supporters following the controversial rulings that cost her in last week's U.S. Open final.

A Care2 petition with U.S. Open CEO and United States Tennis Association president Katrina Adams listed as its recipient had surpassed its original goal and reached nearly 20,000 supporters on its own by Monday morning. The petition calls for Adams to revoke the $17,000 in fines issued to Williams after chair umpire Carlos Ramos cited her for three contentious rules violations in the U.S. Open final.

"Enough is enough," read the petition, uncovered by USA Today. "Sign my petition to fight back against sexism in tennis. Tell the U.S. Open to apologize to Serena Williams and drop her unjust $17,000 fine!"

What did Serena Williams do?

With Williams trailing Naomi Osaka 1-0 in the second set of her eventual 6-2, 6-4 loss, Ramos issued the six-time U.S. Open champion a warning for allegedly receiving signals from her coach. Later in the same set, Ramos cited her for breaking her racket in frustration, and when she called him a "thief" for the resulting penalty that cost her a point, he issued a third violation that cost her a game.

Tennis icon Billie Jean King and the Women's Tennis Association CEO Steve Simon joined Williams in calling the treatment sexist.

{blackbabes} Serena Williams talks fashion, not fouls at Las Vegas event

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Tennis star Serena Williams talked about her fashion business, not tennis fouls during an appearance before a business convention in Las Vegas.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion said not a word Friday about gender equality in sports or an argument she had last weekend with the chair umpire at her U.S. Open finals match in New York.

Williams said previously she was treated more harshly than a male player would have been after smashing her racket and arguing with match official Carlos Ramos during her finals loss to Naomi Osaka in New York.

She received three code violations and was penalized one game. She was later fined $17,000.

Williams spent 25 minutes talking onstage with Sarah Robb O'Hagan, chief executive of Flywheel Sports, at the National Retail Federation trade show.

{blackbabes} Hold Up! Beyoncé Just Reunited With Destiny's Child's LeToya Luckett

It's a reunion that could cause some Destiny's Child fans to lose their breath!

As Beyoncé continued her On the Run II tour with Jay-Z this month, the Grammy winning singer was able to meet up with a close friend.

Any guesses?! As it turns out, Beyoncé reunited with former Destiny's Child member LeToya Luckett.

"Congratulations LeToya you are gonna be the best mommy," Tina Knowles Lawson shared on Instagram Wednesday afternoon.  The photo captured by Raven Varona was also featured on Beyoncé's website after her tour stop in Arlington, Virginia.

As music lovers know, LeToya and Beyoncé starred in Destiny's Child together up until early 2000. While the singer was not part of the highly publicized reunion at the Coachella Music Festival, there's no ill will amongst this group.

"I think the beautiful thing about DC is none of us came into this to use it as a platform to go solo," she previously shared with Entertainment Tonight. "We were just four girls who wanted to sing. That's it. I think the best thing that you can do is be a team player and play your role."

She added, "We were supportive of each other and that's how it should be.  So that's the advice that I would give. If you're going to be in a group, be in a group. And if you're coming in with other intentions then you need to be honest about it upfront."

Music aside, LeToya recently had some big news to share with her fans. Back in June, the singer and her husband Tommicus Walker announced through an Instagram video that they were expecting.

"We are over the moon and overjoyed by this news," she told Essence. "We feel so blessed that God has gifted us with the gift of life...This is a straight up blessing, just a blessing. So keep us in your prayers. It doesn't matter if it's a girl or boy. We just wanted to have a healthy baby."

Perhaps Beyoncé will have some helpful mommy advice when the time comes!
