Time loops back on itself for Mariah Carey's new single, Infinity.
The sole new track on her #1 to Infinity compilation, due May 18, it may not recapture the glory of '90s chart-toppers like Dreamlover and Always Be My Baby, but it sure gets the sound right.
Infinity's gloriously over-the-top orchestral synths are exceeded only by the song's even more over-the-top non sequitur couplets — "Name hold weight like kilos/Boy, you actin' so corny, like Fritos." Throw in a few of Carey's trademark vocal runs on the last vowel of the title, and Infinity becomes a kiss off (inspired by her travails with Nick Cannon, perhaps?) that sounds more like a come-on.
