Security preparations for music royalty Jay Z and Beyoncé to attend events now rival measures usually reserved for actual royals.
We hear the couple's security team "swept" a cinema at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square on Monday afternoon in anticipation of the rapper and the diva showing up to support their pal Jake Gyllenhaal during the premiere of his new thriller, "Nightcrawler."
Upon arrival, the pair was whisked up to the theater in a private elevator, though they then huddled outside the cinema's main doors as guests were ushered by.
After posing with Gyllenhaal, Jay and Bey sat next to him in a back row, then dashed off when the credits rolled.
We hear they'd previously requested a copy of the film be sent to them in Paris, which arrived under strict lock-and-key.
Once the screening began, Gyllenhaal's co-star Rene Russo — whose husband Dan Gilroy wrote and directed the project — opted for an intimate dinner at Masa with brass from distributor Open Road Films, before joining Oscar-nominated Gyllenhaal at a Stone Rose after-party where other guests included 50 Cent.
"Nightcrawler" stars Gyllenhaal as creepy crime-scene cameraman Louis Bloom, who shoots gruesome accidents and shootings in LA to sell as TV news footage.
Despite Gyllenhaal having learned to live with press and paparazzi attention, he told us the role, for which he lost 30 pounds, "certainly gave me more empathy for the job certain people do in the media." He added, "The film says a lot about giving audiences what they want and how the audience is complicit."
