A much-hyped tour of Jesus Christ Superstar has been abruptly canceled.

On Friday, Options Clause Entertainment LLC, an affiliate of S2BN Entertainment, announced the scrapping of the "Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Spectacular Tour" of North America, scheduled to kick off in New Orleans on June 9.

The trek, announced in April, was to bring the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical to venues in more than 50 cities, with a cast of pop and rock vets -- Michelle Williams, Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd, 'N Sync alum JC Chasez and former Sex Pistol John Rotten Lydon -- led by Ben Forster, who had played the role in U.K. and Australian tours after landing the part in a TV talent competition.

According to an official statement, all purchased tickets will be refunded, and tickets purchased online and via telephone will be automatically refunded.
