When it comes to wearing lipstick and making out, Kerry Washington is a veteran at the sport — after all, her Scandal character, Olivia Pope, would never leave a kiss print on Fitz. So when we spoke to her at Neutrogena's latest launch in N.Y.C, we had to find out her secrets for prepping our lips this Valentine's Day.
Washington, who is the creative consultant for the Neutrogena, was wearing the brand's MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Fresh Orchid — which she says is a perfect V-Day lip color.
"It's tricky because I feel like for Valentine's Day you want to do a bold pink or a red, but you also want to wear something super kissable," she tells People of wearing lipstick for the holiday. "They don't want that all over their faces."
So unless your plans involve going out on the town, Washington advises sticking to neutrals.
"Something warm and natural is always best unless you're doing like an 'out out' date night and you can do red," she advises. "But then when you come home you can just take it off and just do a nice sheer color that's super kissable. That's the point on Valentine's Day. Remain kissable."
But for the Scandal star, the true meaning of February 14th isn't just about the beauty — it's all about the love.
"It's more about the relationships than the look," she says. "We have big family plan's for Valentines Day. Just like family, lots of family, were going to have a fun weekend."
