{blackbabes} Image Awards: ‘Hidden Figures’ Wins Best Picture; ‘Black-ish’ & ‘Queen Sugar’ Nab TV Honors – Full List

 

 Black-ish and Hidden Figures were the big winners at tonight's 48th annual NAACP Image Awards, taking multiple awards including outstanding comedy series and outstanding motion picture, respectively. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was named Entertainer of the Year.

Taraji P. Henson, who was snubbed for an Oscar, took home outstanding actress in both the TV and film category. Denzel Washington won best actor in a motion picture for his role in August Wilson's Fences and shared backstage that he is planning a film adaptation for all 10 of Wilson's plays, the next one being Ma Rainy. "August Wilson is the greatest American playwright of all time. He speaks for the ordinary people." Washington lauded.

This is Us star Sterling K. Brown won his first image award for outstanding actor and spoke of the show's importance backstage. "I sincerely hope, in this very red and blue divided country of ours, that our show can bring people together if only for 42 minutes."

In his opening remarks, four-peat host Anthony Anderson lamented over the departure of former POTUS Barack Obama and thanked President Donald Trump for "expending my vocabulary. I don't lie to folks anymore – I'm merely providing alternative facts."

The ceremony, which took place at Pasadena's Civic Auditorium, honored the outstanding works of people of color from film television, books, and music, with winners announced tonight as well as last night.
