Thirty years ago, Bill Cosby was the family-friendly funniest father in America. Keshia Knight Pulliam played his precocious youngest daughter Rudy Huxtable, and the scenes they shared together were adorable. Nowadays, something like "repugnant" might be a better adjective to describe the public's feelings toward Cosby — but Pulliam says that all those positive memories are difficult to erase.
"Based upon the people that continuously approach me and talk about how it's profoundly impacted their lives, I don't feel you can take that back," Pulliam, now 36, tells The Grio of "The Cosby Show."
"You can't take back the impact that it's had on generations of kids, and it's continuing to have such a positive impact on them," insists Pulliam, whose new film "Will to Love" is premiering on DVD and digital release. "I feel like the place that it has in people's hearts is such a nostalgic part of childhood and beyond, it's going to be difficult to take back those memories."
Nevertheless, a movement seems to be afoot that aims to bury the show, a la "Song of the South." In the months since accusations against Bill Cosby have steamrolled, "The Cosby Show" has been pulled from virtually every outlet that was playing it in syndication.
Although Pulliam stops short of denying the claims against her former TV dad, she is reiterating past comments that the accusations don't ring true for her. "My comment doesn't really change, because, still, regardless of how many … that's just not the man I know," she explains. "That's not who I experienced. I never had that interaction with him, so I can't speak to it."
