Zap2it: Are you still doing a vegan regimen?
Tia Mowry: That was actually just kind of like a detox phase that I went through. I was a vegan for about a year and it was a great experience. And I became vegan not because of animal rights. I became vegan for a year for health purposes. ... It was just kind of a detox that I was going through.
Zap2it: So you were resetting your body?
Tia Mowry: Exactly, yeah. And my mom does that, my dad does that. My husband does that. Some people like my mom, she does it for a month. Like she won't eat red meat or meat at all for a month, just to kind of do a little bit of a detox and a cleanse and to reset your body. And some people do it for six months or a year or some people are vegans for the rest of their lives. But for me, it was just that.
Zap2it: So what does meat taste like when you do go off one of those diets?
Tia Mowry: [Laughs] Oh my God, are you serious? It tastes delicious. The problem is is that I also grew up in Texas, so that's where a lot of the barbecue comes from as well. And when you've grown up around that and when you're smelling it, it's kind of hard to steer away from because it smells delicious.
It's great, but again it's not like I've gone way off the deep end. I mean, I'm not chowing down on pork. The meat that I choose to feed my family, it's healthy meats such as lamb, which is very low in cholesterol and saturated fat. And then turkey, we eat a lot of turkey. We don't eat loads of beef. ... It's a healthier alternative.
