In an interview with the New York Times, FKA twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, spoke candidly about dealing with Pattinson's loyal following of female fans.
The British singer, 27, told the Times that she feels like she's "masquerading as a pop star" as the public continues to show an interest in their romance.
"It's really hard – I can't begin to explain how awful it is," she said. "It makes you want to just stop everything sometimes. It makes you want to smash your face into the mirror."
The couple started dating in September, and got engaged in April. Earlier this month, Pattinson, 29, and FKA twigs, made their first official red carpet appearance at the Met Gala in New York City.
The biracial star has also faced a slew of social media backlash since their engagement, as many superfans of the heartthrob launch racially charged attacks her on Twitter and Instagram.
"It's relentless," she said.
While her spot in the public eye has certainly grown since meeting Pattinson, the "Two Weeks" singer said their relationship hasn't aided her professional career.
"There's no amount of songs I can sing or dances I can dance that will prove to them I'm not a monkey," she told the newspaper.
Despite the new challenges of her celebrity, FKA twigs told the Times she will deal with it.
"I didn't see my life going this way at all," Ms. Barnett said of recent events. "But it's worth it. I'm so happy."
She also spoke to the magazine about her preparations for "Congregata," a two-hour concert series that marries her music with dance performances. The first of her three shows at the Brooklyn Hangar is Sunday.
