It's not Batman vs. the Joker — it's Robin vs. Robyn!
DC Entertainment, the company that owns Batman, has swooped down to block Rihanna from trademarking her real first name — Robyn — saying it's too similar to the superhero's trusty sidekick, Robin.
The sassy singer doesn't look a thing like the Boy Wonder — and their names are spelled differently — but DC, an offshoot of Warner Brothers, wants to stop her company from staking claim to her name, according to the legal blog Pirated Thoughts.
The name is "identical and/or highly related" to the crime-fighting comic character, DC says in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filing, the blog reported.
Rihanna's firm Roraj Trade — which has trademarked her products, including Reb'L Fleur perfume — tried to register the name on June 23, 2014, for use in an online magazine venture.
But DC fired back on May 11, saying "Robin" already has his own trademarked products.
People "are likely to be deceived into falsely believing" that the "Rude Boy" singer is connected to the comic sidekick, according to papers cited by the blog.
Robin first appeared in a 1940 issue of Detective Comics. Robyn Rihanna Fenty first appeared in 1988.
DC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
