"Empire" star Taraji P. Henson nearly posed barefoot for Modern Luxury's Manhattan magazine.

Fashion director James Aguiar had four suitcases of clothes shipped to New York for a cover shoot. Only three arrived.

A trunk full of designer shoes by Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Giuseppe Zanotti and more went missing.

Quick-thinking Aguiar contacted designer friends, who delivered nearly a dozen pairs of Rene Caovilla and Palter DeLiso shoes an hour before the shoot.

Henson appears (in heels) on Manhattan's March cover, and says of her character on "Empire," "She's been in jail for 17 years, so she starts out in a time warp." So she adds there's a character arc, "but a fashion arc, too!"
