Kerry Washington helped invent her own maternity fashion line while pregnant on the set of "Scandal."

The star, who gave birth in April to daughter Isabelle, and her series' costume designer, Lyn Paolo, created clothes to hide her bump.

"It was really fun for Lyn and I, because there didn't really exist a line out there . . . that was able to meet our needs in terms of the elevated level of fashion of [my character] Olivia Pope," Washington told us at the Accessories Council ACE Awards. "So we wound up inventing our own maternity wear and changing beautiful top-of-the-line clothes into maternity clothes."

Washington added that some devoted fans take the show perhaps too seriously.

"I once had a [flight attendant] tell me she wasn't going to let me on the plane unless I 'promised I wasn't going to cheat on the president,'" she recalled. "I was like, 'I don't write the show.'"
