Nicki Minaj knows she has earned her place in the music industry.

Within four years, the rapper has climbed the charts, landed several movie roles and even earned a judging spot on American Idol.

And though the "Super Bass" crooner admits she still has professional goals to reach, Minaj can't help but think about starting a family.

"I don't want to work my whole life without ever experiencing the joys of a family," the 31-year-old told  L'Uomo Vogue's October issue. "I would like to take a hiatus and dedicate myself completely to my child."

Today, Minaj is still hard at work creating her "empire" in an industry dominated by males.

"At first, no one took me seriously," she admitted to the publication while promoting her upcoming album The Pink Print. "In the world of rap, women are usually relegated to the choir."

She added, "I want to build my empire. In my field, I have always seen men do it—from Diddy to Dr. Dre to Jay Z. Now it's a woman's turn."

Minaj, who rocks an edgy bob hairstyle and some sophisticated menswear in the magazine's shoot, was further inspired to have it all after performing with Beyoncé during her On the Run tour.

While rocking matching bodysuits, the talented duo performed the "Flawless Remix." Backstage, however, Minaj got to see Queen Bey interact with daughter Blue Ivy.

"Seeing Beyoncé with her daughter and husband was so tender," she gushed to the magazine. "It showed me that it is possible to be an animal on stage and a caring mother at the same time."

Although she dreams about having her own traditional family with an "upright man, who will take care of me," Minaj knows it's just not the perfect time.

"Family has always been very important to me, and that is why I want to wait until the right moment before starting my own," she said. "Right now I am too busy, but at a certain point the situation will change."
