The singer was found dead at her Hollywood home on Saturday morning at age 25. Her record label confirmed her death, saying in an official statement, "Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time."
G.R.L. were just beginning to enjoy the spotlight as a pop band, singing the chorus on the popular Pitbull song "Wild Wild Love", and seeing their recent single "Ugly Heart" go to number two on the charts in Australia.
Prior to 2012, when she joined G.R.L., who were being touted as the next Pussycat Dolls (both bands were created by Robin Antin), Battle had also been a finalist on the 2011 U.S. version of X Factor, and an actress in the 2012 Mario Van Peebles film, We the Party.
In an interview with PEOPLE in April, Battle said of joining the group, "We'd all been pursuing careers in the industry on our own, but once we found each other, we realized we wanted to do it together. It felt so right. The chemistry was perfect."
G.R.L.'s other members – Paula Van Oppen, Lauren Bennett, Emmalyn Estrada and Natasha Slayton – said via Twitter: "Words cannot express the depth of our loss," and "Simone's incredible talent was only surpassed by the size of her heart."
Other celebrities, including Pitbull and Simon Cowell, also took to Twitter to express their shock and condolences over Battle's untimely death.
