Kerry Washington: How the New Mom Told Friends 'Isabelle Is Here'

When Kerry Washington, 37, and husband Nnamdi Asomugha, 32, welcomed daughter Isabelle Amarachi a few weeks ago, the private couple kept the happy news well under wraps.

Only their closest family, friends and Washington's Scandal cast mates received a sweet alert, not long after the birth. "Isabelle is here," read the simple email the actress sent to friends and costars.

Sources say the new mom couldn't wait. "Kerry spent the last couple of weeks before baby really hunkering down and getting ready," a source tells PEOPLE, "She's so very excited."

And she's got her hands full. With no time to respond to all the congratulations pouring in from friends, "Kerry is at home busy with the baby," says another source. Adds a friend: "She hasn't sent pictures or invited anyone to see her yet, but mom and baby are doing well."

Friends say the role of mom suits her well. "Kerry has always wanted to have children. She’s nurturing and she's a natural caretaker. Plus she's hilarious! Their little girl will definitely have a sense of humor."
