Love is often crazy, and sometimes crazy couples fall in love.

Take the on-again, off-again duo of Bernie (Kevin Hart) and Joan (Regina Hall) in the romantic comedy About Last Night. Bernie tries to break up with her by saying he's Jewish. Joan has no problem calling him out when he's on the prowl at a Halloween party. Yet, the more they bicker and toy with each other, the more their attraction grows.

"Bernie and Joan, we're a couple, our business is out there," Hart says. "We're going to fight, we're going to yell and we're going to think everybody else is crazy for not doing what we do because our love is real and y'all's is fake."

Hall says she has seen many couples like Bernie and Joan. "Sometimes even if you haven't been one, you've been around one. You're out and you're like, 'Uh-oh, here they go.' You know at any point it can go left."

They're over-the-top comedic characters, sure, but they're also grounded enough to be believable for an audience, says Hart.

"Everybody can go and be slapstick and all over the place, but you're going to walk away at some point being like, 'Ugh, all right, enough, it's too much,' " the actor says. "You don't want that. You want people to go on a journey with you in the film."
