Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams are the favourites, and Milos Raonic is a more lucrative wagering option as the sportsbooks roll out their odds to win the U.S. Open.
The Grand Slam event gets underway in New York on Monday.
On the men's side of the draw, Djokovic is the 7/4 favourite according to US Open odds at OddsShark.com, as he looks to make up for last year's loss in the final to Andy Murray. Djokovic, who sits at No. 1 in the current ATP Rankings, won his only U.S. Open crown in 2011 and is pegged at 7/4 odds.
Rafael Nadal, who won the U.S. Open in 2010, is then at 5/2 odds, with Murray at 3/1 odds after he got the victory at the event for the first time in his career last season. Nadal sits at No. 2 in the ATP Rankings, with Murray at No. 3.
It's then Juan Martin Del Potro, and not Roger Federer, next at 10/1 on those U.S. Open odds, with Federer back at 12/1 odds. Federer won the U.S. Open five straight years from '04 to '08, but he's slipped to No. 7 in the updated ATP Rankings. Del Potro, No. 6 in the latest world rankings, won the U.S. Open back in 2009.
John Isner is then at 33/1 odds, with Tomas Berdych at 40/1 odds, and Raonic at 66/1 odds along with David Ferrer. Raonic made it to the fourth round of the U.S. Open last year before losing 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in straight sets to Murray, and he's No. 11 in the current ATP Rankings; Ferrer is No. 4, Berdych is No. 5, and Isner is No. 14.
Over in the women's draw, four-time winner and defending-champion Serena Williams is the 8/11 favourite at the sportsbooks to add a fifth U.S. Open title to her resume this month, with Victoria Azarenka next at 4/1 odds.
Williams, No. 1 in the WTA Rankings, topped Azarenka, the world's No. 2, in last year's final match. Maria Sharapova, who won the title back in 2006, has withdrawn from the U.S. Open with a shoulder injury.
Li Na (20/1), Petra Kvitova (20/1), Agnieszka Radwanska (20/1), Sabine Lisicki (20/1), and Samantha Stosur (25/1) round out the top contenders to claim the women's draw of the U.S. Open this month, with Stosur topping Williams in the final match in 2011.
Two-time U.S. Open champion Venus Williams is a longshot at 80/1 on the odds list.
