Angela Bassett (ex-Leonie, Ryan's Hope) and Julian McMahon (ex-Ian, Another World) are both in final negotiations to join Fox's untitled spy pilot from Karyn Usher.
The drama centers on the orphaned 14-year-old daughter (Saxon Sharbino) of a CIA operative who gets taken in by Kevin Lear (Nip/Tuck's McMahon), a mysterious rogue agent-assassin who serves as both her surrogate father and professional mentor in the spy world. Bassett would play Alice Vargas, the director of the CIA.
Bassett previously played the director of the CIA on ABC's Alias. Her other TV credits include ER, the CBS TV movie The Rosa Parks Story and the ABC miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream.
McMahon is best known for portraying the womanizing plastic surgeon Christian Troy on FX's Nip/Tuck, along with his roles in Charmed and the Fantastic Four films.
Usher (Bones, Prison Break) will write and executive-produce alongside Last Man Standing duo Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements and Brett Ratner, who will also direct the pilot.
