Mary J. Blige was reduced to tears when her husband threw her a surprise 40th birthday party -- and she sang an impromptu duet with her idol, soul legend Anita Baker. Blige's hubby, Martin Kendu Isaacs,planned the desert-themed bash at Skylight West in Midtown on Tuesday night. A spy reported, "They brought in palm trees and sand. Mary J. said [that] growing up in the projects she was lost, and owes her life to being inspired by the song 'Caught Up in the Rapture' by Anita Baker. Anita got up to toast her and started to sing the song. Mary J. began crying and joined in." Guests included Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Gayle King.
