The Julia Set, the coming-of-age drama on which we were recently first to report, has added six to its cast: Nina Hoss (Tár), Chloe Bailey (Grown-ish), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Nico Hiraga (Sweethearts), Liz Lin (Salt Along the Tongue), and Alex Dillard.

Production is underway in London. As previously announced, Chase Infiniti, Christopher Briney, Gillian Anderson, and Jason Isaacs lead the ensemble. Also new to the production is HanWay Films, which has come aboard to handle worldwide sales.

Hailing from writer-director Niki Byrne, The Julia Set has One Battle After Another breakout Infiniti playing Julia, a talented mathematician in a fiercely competitive academic environment. Briney, in his first film role since wrapping Prime Video's The Summer I Turned Pretty, plays Pascal, the T.A. who conscripts her into an elite prep course for the most challenging math competition in the world, The Putnam Exam.

No word on roles to be played by the newcomers. Ellen Chenoweth (No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man, Past Lives) and Susanne Scheel (A House of Dynamite, Past Lives) cast the film, which Jeffrey Penman is producing alongside The Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, Juror #2) and Lee Stollman (The Maze Runner, Stargirl), as well as Nick Scherma, Tayler Haynes, and Anderson. The film is being produced with the support of the If/Then initiative, which advances culture change by highlighting positive STEM role models, with If/Then's Nicole G. Small and Margaret Black exec producing alongside Infiniti. The film is a Potato Salad Cosmic Domination Production in association with The Gotham Group, If/Then, G Nus Media, Cinetrain, and Melegrano.

In a statement accompanying the new castings, HanWay Film CEO Gabrielle Stewart shared, "We all loved Niki's excellent screenplay following the journey of a young woman assuming her genius in an academic field dominated traditionally by men and how challenging that is for her. In a way this is a female-led Good Will Hunting. And the cast could not be more exciting nor of the moment!"

Hoss is a renowned German actor known for starring opposite Cate Blanchett in Todd Field's Tár who will next be seen in Amazon MGM Studios' Hedda, which premiered at TIFF. She is repped by The Artists Partnership, Players Agentur Management, and CAA.

Bailey is a four-time Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and actress who's starred in projects like Grown-ish, Swarm, and Praise This. She is repped by CAA.

Breaking out with roles in Born to Be Blue, opposite Ethan Hawke, and Ava DuVernay's Selma, where she played Coretta Scott King, Ejogo will next be seen in BBC's Wild Cherry, from director Toby MacDonald. She is repped by WME and The Artists Partnership.

Hiraga stars opposite Kiernan Shipka in New Line's Sweethearts, which is streaming on HBO Max. He also stars in Amy Landecker's directorial debut For Worse, which premiered at SXSW this year. Most recently wrapping on Amazon MGM and Lionsgate's The Devil's Mouth, he is repped by WME and Myman Greenspan.

Previously seen in Aussie indies including Salt Along the Tongue, which premiered at SXSW Sydney, and Lonesome, Lin is repped by Haven Entertainment and Australian agency Sophie Jermyn Management.

An actor with Down syndrome making his film debut in The Julia Set, Dillard is repped by Gamut Management.

The fourth and final season of Peacock's Bel-Air will welcome Janet Hubert (Demascus, Sweet Magnolia), who played the original Aunt Viv in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, becoming the sixth OG cast member to appear in the reimagination. Additionally, Caroline Chikezie (Power Book II: Ghost) will also guest star. Season 4 premieres on Monday, November 24.

Similar to her predecessors, Hubert will play a new character in the world of Bel-Air. She is set to portray a wise woman whom Hilary (Coco Jones) meets, and who becomes instrumental to the Banks family.

Chikenzie will play Dominique Warren, the leader of Geoffrey's (Jimmy Akingbola) former London gang, who's also like a sister to him. Adrian Holmes, who plays Bel-Air's Uncle Phil, is London-born Chikenzie's real-life husband.

We recently revealed Tyra Banks would guest star in Season 4. OG Fresh Prince stars who appeared before her on Bel-Air include: Daphne Maxwell Reid, who played Aunt Viv #2 in the OG series, portrayed Helen in Season 1, Episode 9; Vernee Watson-Johnson, who played Will's mom Vy Smith in the OG series, portrayed Janice in same episode as Maxwell Reid; Tatyana Ali, who played Ashley Banks originally, portrayed middle school teacher, Mrs. Hughes, in Season 2; and Joseph Marcell, who played butler Goeffrey in Fresh Prince, portrayed someone from Geoffrey's past in Season 3.

https://deadline.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/TBDFRPR_EC005.jpg?resize=619,480

Inspired by Morgan Stevenson Cooper's viral trailer that reimagined the '90s sitcom, Bel-Air takes a dramatic and raw approach to this world of swagger, style, and aspiration, while exploring Will's (Jabari Banks) complex journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air through a current lens.

In Season 4, Will tries to balance the fun and excitement of senior year with the expectations that have brought him to this moment. Carlton (Olly Sholotan) tests his own resolve as he deals with the fallout of some very big decisions that could threaten his future. Together, both boys will help each other through this pivotal time in their lives.

An unexpected power shift will threaten the brotherhood between Phil and Geoffrey, whose loyalties to the Banks family will be tested. Viv (April Parker Jones) struggles with reinventing herself as she looks at motherhood from a different perspective. It's Ashley's (Akira Akbar) freshman year in high school, and she's working through a rebellious phase, but quickly learns that the status quo may no longer serve her. Hilary goes on a journey of self-exploration.

Carla Banks Waddles is Bel-Air's showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Morgan Stevenson Cooper, Will Smith, Terence Carter, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, Benny Medina, Quincy Jones, and Andy and Susan Borowitz also EP. David Boorstein, Des Moran, Shukree Tilghman, and Felicia Pride co-executive produce.

Directors this season include Nick Copus (401, 402), Keesha Sharp (403, 404), Tina Mabry (405, 406), and Morgan Stevenson Cooper (407, 408). The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Westbrook Studios.

Hubert is represented by DGRW.

Chikezie is represented by Paradigm and Untitled.

{blackbabes} Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green talk 'Boston Blue' and bringing back Danny Reagan

https://canoe.com/entertainment/television/boston-blue-premiere-donnie-wahlberg-interview-blue-bloods-spinoff?itm_source=entertainment

Before it wrapped last year, Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg didn't want his time on the popular cop drama to end.

Over the course of 14 seasons, Wahlberg, 56, played NYPD detective Danny Reagan on the series that followed multiple generations of a family working in law enforcement.

Despite good ratings during its Friday night timeslot, CBS pulled the plug on the Tom Selleck-led cop drama. Finances, COVID, and a prolonged actors and writers strike all played a part in hastening its end.

Speaking to Postmedia on a recent Monday morning, Wahlberg says he tried everything to keep the show on the air. He even says he would have worked for free.

But he admits that he always teased the writers on that long-running New York City-based procedural that if it were ever to come to a close, he had some ideas of what should happen to Danny.

"When we were still filming Blue Bloods, I would throw it around to some of the writers. 'If Blue Bloods ever ends, Danny as a fish-out-of-water would be great.' Of course, I was thinking, like Texas or Vegas or L.A., somewhere warm," says the actor and New Kids on the Block member.

After CBS cancelled Blue Bloods last year following a 14-season run, Wahlberg got his wish when producers called him up and offered him a chance to revive Danny in his own spinoff set in his hometown of Boston.

New partner, new city

"Danny being a fish-out-of-water was always something I thought could work," Wahlberg says. "But I never thought Boston."

In Boston Blue, which debuts Friday on CBS and CTV, Danny heads to Beantown after his rookie cop son Sean (played by Mika Amonsen) is injured while investigating an arson/murder case. While there, Danny partners up with local detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), who also hails from a prominent law enforcement family, to investigate the crime.

The premiere episode sets the stage for Danny's permanent move to Boston, leaving behind the rest of the Reagan clan and his NYPD family.

After failing to get CBS to reverse its decision to cancel Blue Bloods (Wahlberg and his castmates "fought tooth-and-nail" to keep the show in its original incarnation on the air), the new series adds an additional chapter to Danny's story and opens the door to other potential spinoffs.

Showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis (The Blacklist) have kept the procedural element of Blue Bloods intact in this new incarnation — Danny and Lena are charged with solving a new crime every week. The Sunday dinners that were a hallmark of the earlier show are also reimagined with Danny sharing meals with the interracial, multifaith Silver family.

https://smartcdn.gprod.postmedia.digital/torontosun/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/tvtimes1017-1.jpg_299195244-e1760721938991.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=944&type=webp&sig=9oDq86XKzxnd3eKPQ9-p-A

Martin-Green, who previously appeared on Star Trek: Discovery and The Walking Dead, said she's thrilled she gets to be a part of another legacy TV franchise.

"That faith, family and tradition of Blue Bloods is indicative of Boston Blue and also us behind the scenes as well," the 40-year-old actress says. "I feel like we have all those elements of Blue Bloods that made it special, but it is its own thing as well."

Wahlberg credited Martin-Green's character with helping shape Boston Blue.

"Although they have different backgrounds, different faiths and a lot of other different things, Danny kind of sees himself in her and she sees herself in him as well," Wahlberg says.

The cast also includes Ernie Hudson as the patriarch of the Silvers. Bridget Moynahan returns for a cameo in the pilot when Danny's Blue Bloods sister comes to visit him in Boston.

In the second episode Danny goes to Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox, to cheer on the Mets. With the Toronto Blue Jays in the midst of a playoff run, Wahlberg says even though Danny is from New York, he wouldn't allow the character to cheer for the Yankees.

Toronto's postseason success, Wahlberg adds, "is good for baseball."

Keeping the Reagans' story alive

One fifth of the musical group New Kids on the Block, Wahlberg shifted to acting with roles in The Sixth Sense and Boomtown following NKOTB's disbandment in 1994.

With the New Kids back — they just completed a new run of shows in Las Vegas and will return to Sin City later this year — the father-of-two has successfully juggled his life on the screen and the stage for more than a decade.

But Danny Reagan and Blue Bloods have been one of his most important artistic achievements, so he's happy to be able to extend the story as long as audiences remain interested.

"This show wasn't an either or. It wasn't like they asked if I wanted to keep doing Blue Bloods or do this. Blue Bloods had run its course and it was in a last-ditch effort to get Blue Bloods back on the air that I discovered the possibility of this show," he says. "I had to see this show for what it was. It wasn't the end of Blue Bloods; it was the only path to keeping it alive. To keep those traditions alive, to keep family, faith and tradition on television. To keep the Reagans' storyline alive, but in a new world."

Wahlberg knows fans miss Blue Bloods, but he hopes that they'll be reminded of what they loved about that show when they watch Boston Blue.

"The fans of Blue Bloods miss Blue Bloods, but I also know that people miss family, faith and tradition on television already," he says. "People related to the Reagans and I think they can relate to this family, the Silvers, as well. This family has the same three tenets: faith, family and tradition. And they've got law enforcement in their DNA."

Boston Blue airs Fridays on CBS and CTV.

BAFTA winner Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners) is set to join The Social Reckoning, Sony Pictures' follow-up to The Social Network — the Oscar-winning 2010 drama examining Facebook's origin story that Aaron Sorkin penned for director David Fincher.

No word yet on who Mosaku will play. She joins a cast that includes the previously announced Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong and Bill Burr. Sorkin is directing this time around, having also again penned the script.

Described as a companion piece to The Social Network, Sorkin's script tells the true story of how Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network's most guarded secrets.

Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser are producing the pic, slated for release in theaters on October 9, 2026.

Mosaku is coming off of her turn as Annie, the Hoodoo priestess partner of Michael B. Jordan's Smoke, in Sinners, Ryan Coogler's smash hit period vampire flick, which grossed over $350 million worldwide. Campaigning for a Supporting Actress Oscar for her work, the rising star has also been seen in films like Deadpool & Wolverine, His House, and Damilola, Our Loved Boy, for which she won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress. Her TV credits include Loki, Black Mirror, We Own This City and Lovecraft Country.

Upcoming, Mosaku will appear alongside Amanda Seyfried in The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd, the forthcoming prison break thriller written and directed by Tim Blake Nelson. She is repped by Gersh, Principal Entertainment LA, Scott Marshall Partners, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

Netflix has set Thursday, January 8, for the premiere of His & Hers, its limited series based on Alice Feeney's novel, starring Tessa Thompson, who also executive produces, and Jon Bernthal. The streamer also released several first-look photos, which you can see above and below.

Written by William Oldroyd (Eileen, Lady Macbeth), Dee Johnson (Fellow Travelers, The Good Wife) and Bill Dubuque, the psychological thriller is set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, where Anna (Thompson) lives in haunting reclusivity, fading away from her friends and career as a news anchor. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega – the sleepy town where she grew up – Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers. Detective Jack Harper (Bernthal) is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation. There are two sides to every story, his and hers — which means someone is always lying.

The main cast also includes Pablo Schreiber, Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Marin Ireland and Poppy Liu.

Oldroyd also serves as co-showrunner, as well as writer, director and executive producer, while Johnson serves as co-showrunner, writer and executive producer and Dubuque is writer/executive producer. Kristen Campo executive produces for Campout Productions along with Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films and Kishori Rajan for Viva Maude. Fifth Season is the studio.

Omari Hardwick (Power), Tavon Olds-Sample (Rob Peace), Reggie Lochard (When The Well Runs Dry) and Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls) are attached to star in coming-of-age indie feature Shadow Dance.

Olds-Sample, who is best known for portraying "middle Michael" in the Broadway show MJ The Musical, will play "a young dancer, Amare, whose dream of stardom collides with a world of vice and manipulation. When his father casts him out for who he is, he seeks solace in the arms of a mysterious benefactor whose generosity conceals a dark undercurrent."

Cast also includes Omar J. Dorsey (Queen Sugar), Adrienne Warren (The Woman King) and Jasmine Guy (The Vampire Diaries). Filming is being eyed for Q1, 2026.

Written and produced by Reggie Lochard, the drama is being produced by Ty Walker (Imperium) under the Braveheart Entertainment banner, and will be directed by Kelley Kali (Jagged Mind). Finance comes from private equity sources, we're told.

The full synopsis reads: "Amare Jordan is an aspiring dancer who finds himself out on the streets after his father walks in on him in bed with another man. Now on his own, he must navigate the harsh realities of being on his own and fending for himself, all the while trying to make his dreams of becoming a professional dancer come to life. Scared and alone, he meets Dennis Knight, a seemingly kind and generous man who eventually takes him down a rabbit hole of drugs, sex and lies."

{blackbabes} ‘The Neighborhood’ Casts Amber Stevens West In 8th & Final Season

Amber Stevens West

Amber Stevens West has been tapped for a key recurring role opposite Sheaun McKinney in the upcoming eighth and final season of CBS' comedy series The Neighborhood.

West will play Mercedes. High-drama, high-maintenance, fabulous and self-absorbed, one of the stars on "Trophy Divas of Brentwood," Mercedes is all about Mercedes. She has hired Malcolm to ghost write her romance novel, but she's concerned that it's not smutty enough to please her fan base. But when she's not out in public, Mercedes is actually much more grounded and a savvy businesswoman, not the monster she plays on TV.

The Neighborhood stars Cedric the Entertainer as Calvin Butler, the unofficial mayor of his Pasadena (CA) neighborhood, where he lives with his loving wife, Tina, and next door to his two older sons, Malcolm (McKinney) and Marty (Marcel Spears). The show tells the story of the Butlers' unlikely friendship with their new(ish) neighbor, perpetual nice-guy Dave Johnson (Max Greenfield), his wife, Gemma (Beth Behrs), and their now-teenage son, Grover (Hank Greenspan). After seven years of sharing a front yard, the Johnsons have gone from neighborhood newcomers to full-on denizens, really becoming the best of friends with the Butlers (though Calvin won't admit it). The two families, who couldn't be more different, have realized they have much more in common than they ever thought they would.

Cast also includes Tichina Arnold and Skye Townsend.

Bill Martin, Mike Schiff, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, Cedric the Entertainer and Eric Rhone executive produce. CBS Studios is the studio.

Season 8 of The Neighborhood premieres Oct. 13 at 8/7c on CBS.

West most recently starred in the action-thriller film To Get Her at BET+. Known best for her starring role on all three seasons of NBC's The Carmichael Show, West's additional TV credits include Krapopolis, Run The World and Ghosted, among others. She's repped by Red Baron Management and Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan LLP.

"The Chi" will end its run at Paramount+ with Showtime with its upcoming eighth season, Variety has confirmed.

The show was renewed for Season 8 back in May not long after the Season 7 premiere. The cast of the series includes Lynn Whitfield, Jacob Latimore, Yolonda Ross, Michael V. Epps, Shamon Brown Jr., Birgundi Baker, Luke James, and Wendy Raquel Robinson.

With the Season 8 renewal, "The Chi" became one of the longest-running Showtime shows in the network's history. It now ranks alongside shows like "Dexter," "Homeland," and "Weeds," which all ran eight seasons at the premium cabler. Only "Shameless" has run longer, with that show wrapping up after 11 seasons in 2021. Production on Season 8 of "The Chi" is set to begin in early 2026.

Lena Waithe is the creator of "The Chi" and executive produces under her Hillman Grad banner. Justin Hillian serves as co-showrunner and executive producer via Hillianaire Productions, with Jewel Coronel co-showrunning and executive producing via Uncut Gems, Inc. Common is also an executive producer along with Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Resheida Brady-Anderson, Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone of ID8 Multimedia as well as Naomi Funabashi, who oversees for Hillman Grad and Rishi Rajani, CEO of Hillman Grad. Supervising producers Deondray Gossfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield directed multiple episodes in season seven. 20th Television is the studio.

Waithe isssued a statement on the series ending, which can be read below.

With "The Chi" ending, the only remaining shows on the Showtime slate are "The Agency," "Yellowjackets," and "Dexter: Resurrection." As Variety exclusively reported, the "Dexter" prequel "Dexter: Original Sin" has been canceled despite the fact a Season 2 renewal was announced earlier this year.

Statement from Lena Waithe:

"When I created The Chi, it wasn't just about making a TV show—it was about owning our narratives and telling our stories with truth, care, nuance and complexity. It was about showing the soul of the South Side—the beauty, the pain, the grit, and the magic that lives in every block, and in every family.

After much reflection, we have made the decision to end The Chi with season 8. I know, for the sake of our story and our characters, it's the right thing. I am committed to delivering a final season that our Chi Family deserves.

It's been the honor of my life to build a platform for artists to shine—not just in front of the camera, but behind the scenes as well. To helm the longest-running Black drama on television is a huge honor and it's something I don't take lightly.

I'm deeply grateful to every single person who helped build this world—our writers, actors and crew who give so much of themselves to make this show what it is.

As for what the future holds, I still plan on telling stories, continuing to build community, and making space for us all to be seen."
