{blackbabes} Gotham Awards Nominations: ‘Manchester By The Sea’, ‘Moonlight’ Lead Way

Kenneth Lonergan's Manchester By The Sea and Barry Jenkins' Moonlight were in the spotlight as the IFP Gotham awards revealed nomination for its 26th annual awards this morning. The group's award noms usually marking the unofficial official start of the film awards season.

Manchester, which bows November 18 via Amazon and Roadside Attractions after a fest run that began at Sundance, landed a Best Feature nom along with Best Actor for star Casey Affleck, Best Screenplay for Lonergan and Breakthrough Actor for Lucas Hedges.

Moonlight, which follows the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood in Miami, also snagged a Best Feature nom, as well as a Special Jury Award for the cast. Jenkins' script also was nominated. Its release starts Friday via A24.

Also on the marquee Best Feature list: Kelly Reichardt's Certain Women, Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some!! and Jim Jarmusch's Paterson starring Adam Driver.

The mostly indie affair is particularly strong in the acting categories this year. On the Actress side: Kate Beckinsale for Love & Friendship (director Whit Stillman also landed a Screenplay nom for the period comedy of manners), Annette Bening for 20th Century Women, Isabelle Huppert for Elle, Ruth Negga for Loving and Natalie Portman for playing Jackie Kennedy in Jackie.

Actor noms include Affleck, Driver, Hell Or High Water's Jeff Bridges, Negga's Loving co-star Joel Edgerton and Morris From America's Craig Robinson.

Ten categories were unveiled today, with winners to be bestowed November 28 at Cipriani Wall Street, where Amy Adams, Ethan Hawke and Oliver Stone will receive 2016 Gotham tributes and producer Arnon Milchan will receive the group's industry tribute.
