{blackbabes} ‘Transformers’: Dominique Fishback Lands Lead Role Opposite Anthony Ramos In Next Installment For The Paramount Franchise

Following her breakout role in the Oscar-winning Judas and the Black Messiah, Dominique Fishback has found her next role in one of Hollywood's biggest franchises. Sources tell Deadline that Fishback is in final negotiations to co-star with Anthony Ramos in a Transformers movie for Paramount, eOne and Hasbro that has Steven Caple Jr. is directing. The film is bowing on June 24, 2022

Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters are writing based off a script by Joby Harold. Skydance is co-financing and executive producing. New Republic Pictures are also co-financing partners.

While Ramos seemed like the front-runner from the beginning, Paramount took their time meeting with a number actresses for the other lead role in the film. Ramos would also screen-test with a handful of women and in the end Fishback won over everyone involved on the project. The opportunity to work with Ramos comes full circle for the two who have been close friends for years after working together on a play all the way back in college.

Transformers has been one of Paramount's biggest draws since the franchise was launched in 2007, grossing more than $4 billion worldwide over five films. Following the release of 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight, director Michael Bay parted ways with the series to focus on new original material. After that, the studio decided to do a full revamp of the property, starting with a writers room that would develop multiple ways to pursue a new film, leading to 2018's Bumblebee.

Fishback is having quite the run which started with her BAFTA-nominated role as Deborah Johnson, the writer, activist and fiance Fred Hampton, the Chairman of the Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party. Her co-star, Daniel Kaluuya, was recently feted with an Oscar for his role as Hampton but many pundits and critics saw Fishback as breakout star of the film and Hollywood has taken notice. Besides Transformers, Fishback is also set to co-star with Samuel L. Jackson in the Apple series The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, which shoots later this year. She is also starring in Subverted which she will also exec produce with Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner.

She was also recently seen opposite Foxx in Netflix's Project Power. Fishback is repped by WME, Management 360 and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.

{blackbabes} Cyntoia Brown Limited Series From Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, La La Anthony & Santa Sierra In Works At Starz

Starz has put in development The Case of Cyntoia Brown, a limited drama series inspired by the story of Cyntoia Brown-Long, who served 15 years of a life sentence for killing a man when she was 16 years old. The project, based on Brown-Long's book, Free Cyntoia: My Search for Redemption in the American Prison System, hails from Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson (Power, Black Mafia Family) and La La Anthony (Power, The Chi), who will executive produce, and writer Santa Sierra (Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Vida). Brown-Long and her husband Jamie Long will consult on the project.

Anthony has been a long-time supporter of Brown-Long and brought the project to Jackson's G-Unit Film & Television, Inc. banner, which is developing the series under G-Unit's overall deal with Starz.

Written by Sierra, the series tells the story of Cyntoia Brown-Long who was sex trafficked by a boyfriend, tried as an adult at 16 years old and sentenced to life in prison for aggravated robbery and first-degree murder. Despite being a minor, the sentence required her to serve at least 51 years before being eligible for parole consideration, which would not make her eligible for parole until she was 67.

Sierra also will serve as executive producer.

"We're honored to be entrusted with Cyntoia's story, which shines a light on the injustice of a system that tried and sentenced an at-risk minor as an adult when she was a victim herself of sex trafficking," said Christina Davis, President of Original Programming for Starz. "This limited series from Curtis, La La and Santa chronicles Cyntoia's long journey to freedom and furthers our #TakeTheLead programming mandate centered on narratives by, about and for women and underrepresented audiences."

For years, Brown-Long maintained that the 2004 killing was an act of self-defense. Over the years, the fight for her release brought prominent lawyers to her defense and support from celebrities in addition to Anthony including LeBron James, Kim Kardashian West and Rihanna. While incarcerated, Brown-Long earned her associates and bachelor's degrees while also mentoring at-risk youth.

She was granted clemency and released in 2019 and now advocates for criminal justice reform and victims of trafficking. Her case also inspired the introduction of state legislation aimed at protecting minors who are victims of sex trafficking. Since her conviction, juvenile sentencing guidelines in Tennessee have been amended: now, children under the age of 18 cannot be tried for prostitution. If she were to be arrested today, Brown-Long would be treated as a child human trafficking victim. The project falls under Starz's recently launched #TakeTheLead initiative, the company's comprehensive effort to deepen its existing commitment to narratives by, about and for women and underrepresented audiences.

Jackson is repped by APA and attorneys Eric Feig and Stephen Savva. Sierra is repped by Verve.

{blackbabes} ‘Fantasy Island’: Kiara Barnes Joins Fox Reboot As She Nears ‘The Bold & The Beautiful’ Exit; John Gabriel Rodriquez Also Cast

Kiara Barnes, John Gabriel Rodriguez

The Bold and the Beautiful star Kiara Barnes has been cast as a series regular and John Gabriel Rodriquez (If Loving You Is Wrong) as heavily recurring in Fantasy Island, Fox's contemporary version of the classic drama series that has a straight-to-series order to air this summer. The project hails from writer-producers Liz Craft and Sarah Fain as well as Sony Pictures TV and its Gemstone Studios label, which co-produce with Fox Entertainment.

Actress-singer Barnes has been tapped for Fantasy Island as she is finishing her last year on CBS' long-running daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful, Deadline has learned. Barnes, who has played Zoe Buckingham since 2018, will be wrapping production on the soap soon.

The reboot is keeping the semi-anthological format of the original Fantasy Island with three main characters, two played by Barnes and Rodriquez, who live/work on the island and new guests arriving in every episode.

The original series, created by Gene Levitt and executive produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg, starred Ricardo Montalbán as the mysterious Mr. Roarke and Hervé Villechaize as his assistant Tattoo as they grant guests so-called "fantasies" on the island for a price.

The new Fantasy Island will be run by Elena Roarke, a direct descendant of Mr. Roarke.

Barnes will play the warm and wise Ruby Okoro, a young woman with an old soul. She arrives on Fantasy Island with a terminal illness, but Roarke and the island give her a new lease on life.

Rodriquez will play the rugged, handsome and charismatic Javier, Fantasy Island's head of transport — a pilot, mechanic and jack of all trades. While the island provides Javier refuge, as with everything else it offers, it may come at the price of a reckoning.

There is no direct version of the Tattoo character in the reboot.

The Fantasy Island reimagining, written and executive produced by Craft and Fain, delves into the "what if" questions that keep us awake at night. Each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who walk in with a desire but end up reborn to themselves through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.

Barnes recently starred in the Lifetime original movie The Wrong Wedding. She also stars on the UMC show Stuck With You, which is headed into Season 2. She is repped by Zero Gravity Management, Aperture Talent Agency and attorney Melanie Frank.

Rodriquez, who has done guest starring/recurring stints on NCIS, Young and Hungry, The Fosters and Rosewood and was a series regular in the NBC pilot Miranda's Rights, is repped by Haven Entertainment.

{blackbabes} Beyoncé and Jay-Z hit party at Omar Hernandez’s new Miami supper club

Beyoncé and Jay- Z took Miami over the weekend and one of their first stops was opening night of Omar Hernandez's private supper club "Nights at the Saxony" at the Faena Hotel.

It'll be a weekly private event at the hotel's Saxony Bar.

Spies at the bash told us the couple was "very well-escorted" and appeared "relaxed and chill," hanging in Hernandez's private cove.

Hotelier Alan Faena, Naeem Khan, Colin Cowie, a pregnant Karolina Kurkova and her husband Archie Drury were also on the scene.

Meanwhile, party guy Cuba Gooding Jr. showed up with girlfriend Claudine DeNiro for night two of Hernandez's party and showed off his karaoke skills. He and David Bryan from Bon Jovi belted out "It's My Life" and Journey's "Faithfully." Gooding was also spotted hanging out and taking photos with drag star Adora.

"We love you Omar," Gooding shouted on the mic.

One partygoer described the scene as a "magical weekend of reconnecting and feeling alive!"

This is Hernandez's first party since splitting from the Omar's brand he launched in New York with his venues Vaucluse and La Boîte. His former partners still operate under his name and brought their own party, Omar's La Plage, to Miami in March. He distanced himself from the brand after disagreeing on how to operate during the pandemic.

"We're slowly parting ways. I'm slowly phasing out and going back to my own roots. La Boîte and La Plage is a spinoff of what we've done in the past, but now I'm transitioning into something else," Hernandez told Page Six last month.

{blackbabes} Yara & Keri Shahidi Developing TV Series Based On Cole Brown’s Book ‘Greyboy: Finding Blackness In A White World’ For ABC Signature

Keri and Yara Shahidi Cole Brown

In a competitive situation, ABC Signature has acquired the rights to Cole Brown's critically acclaimed debut book Greyboy: Finding Blackness in a White World, to develop for television. Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi and her business partner and mother Keri Shahidi will develop the series and executive produce via their 7th Sun Productions, as part of their overall deal with the studio, a part of Disney Television Studios. Brown also will serve as an executive producer.

Published in 2020, Greyboy: Finding Blackness in a White World is a first-hand examination of what it means to navigate the in-between.

Per the book's synopsis: "Cole has heard it all before—token, bougie, oreo—the things we call the kids like him. Black kids who grow up in white spaces, living at an intersection of race and class that many doubt exists. He needed to get far away from the preppy site of his upbringing before he could make sense of it all.

Through a series of personal anecdotes and interviews with his peers, Cole transports us to his adolescence and explores what it's like to be young and in search of identity. He digs into the places where, in youth, a greyboy's difference is most acutely felt: parenting, police brutality, depression, and dating, to name a few."

Greyboy was announced as the April selection of NBA star Stephen Curry's Underrated Book Club by Literati and has been lauded by Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Queen Latifah, Anthony Anderson, and Misty Copeland, among others. Greyboy was also nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work by a Debut Author.

"From our first conversation, it was obvious that Yara, Keri, and the 7th Sun team understood this story intimately and had a vision for it that aligned with my own," said Brown. "I'm thrilled to be working with them to bring Greyboy to life for TV."

"Every time we picked up Greyboy, Cole's words have only become more resonant," said the Shahidis. "His essays beautifully, and at times, painfully illuminate the much larger conversations around being 'tokenized' while navigating ever-changing white spaces. We are excited to partner with Cole and share the brilliance of Greyboy with a larger audience."

The Shahidis are repped by CAA and attorney Ryan Nord. Brown is repped by CAA and attorney Darrell Miller.

{blackbabes} Anika Noni Rose Joins ‘Let the Right One In’ Showtime Drama Pilot

Tony Award winner Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, Power) is set as a lead opposite Demián Bichir in Let the Right One In, Showtime's vampire drama pilot from Away creator Andrew Hinderaker, who serves as showrunner; Seith Man, who will direct; and Tomorrow Studios.

Inspired by the best-selling 2004 novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and its 2008 Swedish film adaptation, the series revolves around Mark (Bichir) and his 12-year-old daughter, whose lives were changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the minimal amount of human blood she needs to stay alive.

Rose will play Naomi. Brilliant but cynical, Naomi balances life as a single mother with her career as a homicide detective. She'd do anything for her son, Isaiah, and when Isaiah befriends the girl who's just moved in next door, Naomi's thrilled — until she starts to suspect something's off with their new neighbors.

Let the Right One In is described as an elevated genre drama, which is turning a naturalistic lens on human frailty, strength and compassion. The pilot is executive produced by Hinderaker, Mann and Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements for Tomorrow Studios, a partnership between Adelstein and ITV Studios. Bichir will serve as a producer on the potential series.

In addition to sharing in Grammy and SAG Award nominations for Dreamgirls, Rose, a nine-time NAACP Image Award nominee, has appeared in such recent films and TV series as Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, Them and Little Fires Everywhere. On Broadway, she earned a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in Caroline, or Change, and she was also nominated for A Raisin in the Sun. Rose is repped by Innovative, David Williams Management, GoodManagement and Schreck Rose Dapello.

{blackbabes} ‘Women Of The Movement’: Seven Added To Recurring Cast Of ABC Limited Series

ABC is rounding out the recurring cast for its limited series Women of the Movement, from creator-writer Marissa Jo Cerar and a producing team that includes Jay-Z, Will Smith and Aaron Kaplan. The six-episode limited series is set in 1955. Unwilling to let Emmett's murder disappear from the headlines, Mamie chooses to bear her pain on the world stage, emerging as an activist for justice and igniting the Civil Rights movement as we know it today.

Chirisa's Medgar Evers is the beloved NAACP field secretary who was one of Mississippi's most prominent civil rights activists. Committed to bringing Emmett's killers to justice, Medgar risked his life to find key evidence during the murder trial.

{blackbabes} Oscars: Academy Sets Ensemble Cast Of 15 Stars To Serve As Presenters

The producers of this year's very unusual 93rd annual Academy Awards have promised to do the entire broadcast as if it were a movie itself. In line with that, they are "casting" it that way too with an ensemble of 15 stars to handle all the presenting duties, and also in lieu of a host (for a third straight year).

Among the "cast" though, the producers appear to be sticking with at least one Oscar tradition: to have all four acting winners from the previous year return to present the four acting categories this year. Specifically how they will be employed into the show the Academy didn't say, but you can assume that is the reason Joaquin Phoenix, Renee Zellweger, Brad Pitt and Laura Dern are part of the proceedings.

Phoenix, Zellweger, and Dern did the honors similarly at the Golden Globes, though Pitt will be making his first appearance on the awards circuit this year at the Oscars. Also last year's Best Director winner, Bong Joon Ho, who made four trips to the stage for Parasite, is also part of this ensemble, presumably to present Best Director. Other names announced Monday — in alphabetical order — are Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Harrison Ford, Regina King, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, Reese Witherspoon and Zendaya.

"In keeping with our awards-show-as-a-movie approach, we've assembled a truly stellar cast of stars," said producers Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh. "There's so much wattage here, sunglasses may be required."

This idea of having a set group of presenters rotating in and out of the show is not new. When producer Gower Champion reimagined the 1969 Oscar show he created what they called "Friends of Oscar," with 10 stars exclusively serving as presenters (and no host). The format was then repeated successfully the next year, and has been tweaked occasionally over the decades — including for the innovative 2009 show produced by Bill Condon and Laurence Mark, which used combinations of five past winners each to present the acting awards.

Additional talent joining the April 25 live broadcast on ABC will be announced later. Word is all the nominated songs will be performed for the first time on the pre-show. We shall see.
