There he was – Han Solo, Indiana Jones – just waiting to be kissed.
But
Viola Davis, who had a major crush on Harrison Ford when she was younger, just couldn't pull the trigger on her planned "ambush-kiss" on the set of
Ender's Game.
"Listen, I didn't want to say he was a crush of mine when I was a very young girl, because I did not want to be disrespectful of his age. But I wanted to ambush him," Davis, 48, told PEOPLE at the film's Los Angeles premiere Monday. "But it did not happen."
Her plan to "plant a big one on him," as she put it last week on
The Ellen DeGeneres Show, fizzled at the moment of truth.
"I shrunk back, I shrunk back so hard, and so brutally, that we had to do another take!" the Tony Award winner said, laughing, of her costar, 71.
Davis also spoke of
daughter Genesis, and what advice she would give other first-time moms.
"Forgive yourself – every minute of the day, every day, that would be No. 1," she says. "You always focus on your mistakes as a mom, and you just have to know that you're doing the best you can with what you know."
Davis's husband, actor Julian Tennon, adds: "I'm always telling her every day that she's doing a great job, encouraging her, because she is a first-time mom. All that stuff counts, forgiving yourself and encouraging one another when you're raising a kid. It can be a tough business."
