The A Different World family reunion continues to grow with the addition of Dawnn Lewis and Glynn Turman, who originally played Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor and Col. Bradford Taylor, respectively, on the original series. As we reported last month, the sequel series is currently in production in Atlanta.
The guest cast will also include Tichina Arnold (The Neighborhood, Martin) as Darlene Duvall, Joshua Suiter (All's Fair) as Andre, and Raven Goodwin (Grotesquerie, Single Black Female) as Dr. Brooklyn Boyer.
For those keeping track, with the addition of Lewis and Turman, that makes it almost a complete reunion of all the major actors from the original series. They are: Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne Wayne, Jasmine Guy as Whitley Gilbert, Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson, Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks, Charnele Brown as Dr. Kimberly Reese Boyer, Jenifer Lewis as Professor Davenport and Jada Pinkett Smith as Lena James.
Among the notable actors missing from the list are Lisa Bonet, Marissa Tomei, Loretta Devine, and Sinbad.
From showrunner, writer, and executive producer Felicia Pride, the 10-episode single-cam series A Different World follows Deborah (Maleah Joi Moon), Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert's free-spirited, well-intentioned, yet rebellious youngest child, as she enters her freshman year at Hillman College. There, she finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape as she sets out to build her own legacy, while having the time of her life, alongside a whole new generation of Hillman's best and brightest.
The new original cast also includes the next generation of the fictional HBCU's finest: Alijah Kai Haggins as Rashida; Cornell Young as Shaquille, Kennedi Reece as Hazel, Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir, and Chibuikem Uche as Kojo.
Additional cast includes Vincent Jamal Hooper as Ellington, Elijah J. Roberts as Jalen, Renee Harrison as Candace, Famecia Ward as Nellie Gaines, and Dasan Frazier as Xavier.
Debbie Allen, who directed 83 episodes of the original series, will direct three episodes, including the first episode. Writers from the original series, Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood, return as executive producers alongside Mandy Summers and Tom Werner.
