Insecure creator and star Issa Rae has signed on for Universal Pictures' comedy Little, starring Marsai Martin (Black-ish), who came up with the idea for the film. Tina Gordon is on board to direct the pic with Will Packer producing via his eponymous Universal-based production company.
Camilla Blackett (ABC's Fresh Off the Boat) wrote the latest version of the script, which is about a woman who gets the chance to relive the carefree life as her younger self when the pressures of adulthood become too much. An earlier draft was written by Gordon and Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip).
James Lopez and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris are also producing the pic with Josh Martin, Martin and Regina Hall serving as executive producers. Erik Baiers and Mika Pryce will oversee the project for Universal.
Little is slated to open September 20, 2019.
Rae is on the third season of her hit HBO series, Insecure, which will premiere something this year. In addition to Little, her upcoming features include Fox's The Hate U Give and Good Universe's Empress of Serenity opposite Bill Hader.
Rae is repped by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman.
