Angela Bassett and Patricia Arquette are in negotiations to star in the feature comedy Otherhood which Cindy Chupack (Modern Family, Sex In The City) is directing for Netflix. The project was adapted by Chupack and Mark Andrus from the William Sutcliffe novel Whatever Makes You Happy. The production is currently looking to cast one other top star in the film which will go for five weeks in New York on June 11.
Producing the film will be Jason Michael Berman from Mandalay Pictures and Welle Entertainment's Cathy Schulman (who is also the head of Women in Film). Bassett and Arquette are also exec producers on the project.
The story has been described as a romantic comedy about three Moms who leave their suburban life to reconnect with their estranged sons in NYC. Schulman previously worked on the STX comedy smash Bad Moms.
Both Arquette and Bassett are strong actresses who have found great success in both film and TV. Arquette won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress in Boyhood and also won an Emmy for lead actress in Medium; Bassett currently stars in Fox's freshman hit 9-1-1 and was nominated for an Oscar (What's Love Got To Do With It) and has been nominated multiple times for Emmys and has won numerous Image Awards.
Arquette and Bassett are both repped by The Gersh Agency. Arquette is also repped by 3Arts. Bassett by Lighthouse Entertainment and legal reps Fox Rothschild.
