Veteran actor Frank Whaley is set for a recurring role opposite Tony Danza and Josh Groban on The Good Cop, a straight-to-series dramedy crime procedural for Netflix. The project, inspired by a format from Israeli production company Yes, hails from Monk creator/executive producer Andy Breckman and director/executive producer Randy Zisk. Written by Breckman, The Good Cop centers on Tony Sr. (Danza), a disgraced former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr. (Groban), an earnest, obsessively honest NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules. This "odd couple" become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly cautious son blunt, streetwise advice on everything from handling suspects to handling women. Whaley will play Joseph Privett. Details of the role are being kept under wraps. Whaley last was seen on Netflix as Detective Rafael Scarfe in Marvel's Luke Cage. He most recently guest-starred on Sneaky Pete. Whaley is repped by Karen Forman Management and Abrams Artists Agency.
Sofia Bryant has been cast as a series regular opposite Derek Luke in NBC drama pilot Suspicion, from The Path creator Jessica Goldberg, Universal TV and Keshet Studios. Created/written by Goldberg based on the book by Joseph Finder and directed by Brad Anderson, Suspicion is described as a Hitchcockian thriller about how far one man will go to save the people he loves. After Danny Goodman (Luke) accepts a handshake loan from his new friend and millionaire neighbor, he gets a visit from the FBI and learns that the decision is one he will regret for the rest of his life. Coerced to work as an informant for the FBI to earn back his freedom, Danny is forced to infiltrate a world of violence and corruption while trying to protect his family. Bryant will play Ellie, Danny's daughter. Bryant's other TV credits include guest roles on Blue Bloods and The Good Wife. She's repped by Innovative Artists.
