Singer/actress Janelle Monae is returning to music with her first album in five years.
The Tightrope hitmaker has received critical acclaim for her roles onscreen in the films Hidden Figures and Moonlight, but she has now revealed she is turning her focus back to music with her Dirty Computer record.
Monae has not announced a release date for the project, but it will be accompanied by a narrative film, which is being screened in select U.S. theatres before the start of new superhero blockbuster Black Panther.
A trailer for the film was released on Thursday and features the singer floating in the middle of a science lab while thoughts of love and totalitarianism flash through her mind.
"They drained us of our dirt and all the things that made us special, and then you were lost, sleeping, and you didn't remember anything at all," she says in the trailer.

Monae released her last album, The Electric Lady, in 2013.
