Attention on deck! When The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green makes her Star Trek: Discovery debut later this year, she'll do so as First Officer Michael Burnham.
The sci-fi franchise's newest series announced the news Monday via its Twitter account:
From walkers to Klingons - #StarTrekDiscovery is pleased to officially welcome @SonequaMG as First Officer Michael Burnham.
In August, Bryan Fuller — who was then showrunner of the series but has since stepped down — told reporters that the new Trek lead would be a female "lieutenant commander — with caveats." Martin-Green was cast in December.
The Discovery cast also includes James Frain (True Blood) as Spock's father Sarek, Maulik Pancholy (30 Rock) as Dr. Nambue, Jason Isaacs (The OA) as Capt. Lorca and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as captain of the Shenzhou.
The new Trek series originally was supposed to launch in early 2017, but has since been pushed back twice. Discovery now is slated to launch "sometime [in] late summer, early fall," CBS chairman Les Moonves recently told investors.
