ABC is developing Melting Potts, a single-camera comedy from Kerry Washington's Simpson Street production company and ABC Studios, where the company is based.

Written by Ryan Jaffe (This Is Happening), Melting Potts centers on a blended family made up of equal parts Indian, Muslim, Jewish, and New Jersey. It is about a newly married couple struggling against culture, tradition and generations to build their idea of a "normal" American family.

Jaffe executive produces with Simpson Street's Washington and producing partner Sharla Sumpter Bridgett.

This marks the second network sale for Simpson Street in the company's first development season since entering an overall deal with ABC Studios in April. Washington and Sumpter Bridgett also are executive producing ABC drama project Patrol, about four female LAPD officers, which is written by Chitra Elizabeth Sampath.

Simpson Street's first project, which preceded the ABC Studios deal, was the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas HBO movie Confirmation, which the company produced with ABC Signature as well as Groundswell Productions and HBO Films. The movie earned Washington two Emmy nominations, for best TV movie in her role as an executive producer and for her starring turn as Hill.

Washington is repped by CAA, Katherine Atkinson at Washington Square Arts and attorney Gretchen Bruggeman Rush. Jaffe is with Paradigm.
