But while playing Cookie Lyon has changed her life, the actress revealed she keeps herself grounded as much as possible.
"It's weird because I've been doing this for so long," Henson, 45, told Extra. "It took a character like Cookie to expose me to the world in a way that I've never been exposed before."
Adjusting to her newfound fame means getting used to paparazzi and being recognized wherever she goes, something the mother of one did not have to worry about before.
"I love to shop at Target and I love to do my own grocery shopping, but that's become difficult with the paparazzi," Henson said adding, "It's like, 'Where were y'all, like, 10 years ago?'"
The 2008 Oscar nominee won her first Golden Globe Award since starring on Fox's Empire, and has graced countless covers of magazines including Elle's February issue.
"You have got to take the good with the bad. The good side is I can get into any restaurant," Henson joked.
Empire returns March 30.
