With a high-profile Super Bowl 50 appearance on her schedule, it would seem like Beyonce isn't exactly lacking in publicity. Nevertheless, the iconic artist spent the Saturday (Feb. 6) before the big game surprising fans with the top-secret release of her new single "Formation," her first song in over a year.
According to Rolling Stone, Queen Bey has been rehearsing the song during halftime show preparations, making it seem likely that she'll debut it as she performs alongside Coldplay and Bruno Mars.
The video makes reference to Hurricane Katrina and the flooding of New Orleans, with Beyonce sitting on the roof of a partially-submerged police car and singing seductively about her Givenchy dress. It seems as though Beyonce is looking to push some buttons with the song, which makes it an even more unlikely Super Bowl arena anthem, but it sure is catchy.
Her first new song since "Beyonce: Platinum Edition" came out in November 2014, "Formation" is available to download or stream for free through Tidal.
