It's easy to see that "red carpet Kerry" takes way more fashion risks than Olivia Pope. And Kerry Washington wants everyone to know she doesn't really care what you think about her real life, high-fashion choices.
Ma
"You can't please everybody," she confessed to WWD in a recent interview, adding that one of her favorite looks was the silver mesh Marc Jacobs dress she donned at the 2015 Emmys, a piece that was plucked straight off the runway three days before the award show.
Washington stands strong by her red carpet risks — even some of her most polarizing like the voluminous bubblegum pink Prada confection from the 2015 Met Gala, the off-the-shoulder metallic Mary Katrantzou tea-length number from the 2015 Golden Globes and the hot pink midriff-baring beaded top and midnight blue silk skirt (both Prada) she wore to the 2014 Screen Actors Guild awards (all shown below). It's clear that she has fun with fashion (and subscribes to the whole "fashion over function" philosophy, as all of the looks below require a bathroom buddy).
Just like her unpredictable sense of style, Washington likes to mix things up in the beauty world, too, and wants others to do the same. That's why she's teamed up with OPI as its creative ambassador to create a colorful nail polish collection, which, she says, is not a Scandal-inspired line (although fans may wish it were!).
"Nails are at that interesting point where fashion and beauty meet," Washington said. "If I enter that space, it's important for me to know the landscape and do it in a way that's authentic and right and true to who I am."
And while the actress makes a point to keep her personal life private, she says she couldn't help but incorporate a little piece of her family into the new collection. Washington named a caramel-colored nail lacquer, IsabelletWay, after her two-year-old daughter, Isabelle.
"I thought long and hard about having my daughter involved, but once I came up with the name, I couldn't get it out of my head," she said.
Washington's OPI collection, which boasts 15 very different shades, for $10 a piece, will hit shelves Aug. 4.
Are you excited about Kerry's new OPI collection? Will you be adding any of the colorful polishes to your nail stash?
