What's standing between Serena Williams and moving one step closer to a history-making, calendar-year Grand Slam at the U.S. Open? Her big sister, Venus Williams, whom she faces in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Serena is the U.S. Open's top seed and a three-time defending champion, but even as the pressure piles up, the 33-year-old tennis star is keeping her cool, sipping (and spilling) the tea with pal Kim Kardashian.
The reality star took to her Instagram account on Monday to share a photo of the pair enjoying some tea time together, captioning it: "Sipping & spilling the tea tonight with Serena."
In the picture, the two women are seen sitting at small table, with Williams sporting a raised pinky. The tennis star later reposted the photo on her own Instagram account and included the caption: "Delicious tea!"
While the tea may have been tasty, the outcome of Serena's match against Venus in the U.S. Open quarterfinals is sure to be bittersweet.
The two will face off Tuesday night and if Serena beats her sister and moves into second place in the tournament, she will be one step closer to becoming the first person in 27 years to secure a calendar year Grand Slam.
But playing against her sister comes with a special set of challenges.
"It's hard to feel excited about [beating] someone you root for all the time no matter what and who you love so much and she's your best friend in the world," Serena previously told the Associated Press. "It's never easy, but you just play for the competition and enjoy the moment."
"I think people love to see history being made," Venus added to the AP. "No one is out to be a spoiler, but at the same time, you're focused on winning your match, even though the circumstances are really much different."
Just days ago, Serena posted a throwback video clip of her and Venus when they were young as part of a recent Gatorade commercial.
"If you were a tennis player, who would you want to be like?" an interviewer asks a young Serena.
Answers the future tennis star: "Well, I'd like other people to be like me."
