Serayah McNeill may be on Fox's biggest show, "Empire" — not to mention her coveted spot in Taylor Swift's "girl squad" — but it wasn't long ago that she was paying her dues folding jeans to make ends meet.
"I was going to community college and I had a job at H&M [before 'Empire']," McNeill told The Post at Rachel Zoe's Fashion Week presentation. "I was also acting, singing and doing a lot of auditions."
McNeill plays the character of Tiana Brown, a rising R&B star who is also bisexual. "The directors and I talked about Lauryn Hill, Beyoncé, Rihanna — as far as performing, those were the influences," she said of her character.
The 20-year-old was mostly coy about what to expect from Season 2 of the hit show, which debuts Sept. 23, and for which she's been promoted to a series regular — but she did have this to say: "[It] is Season 1, times 10. I hope people get to learn more about Tiana and where she comes from, and why she is the way she is."
