"I'm really dying to be in a comedy," Nyong'o told PEOPLE at Disney's D23 Expo on Saturday. "I'd love to be in a love story! How about some of that?"
The actress was at the fan expo in Anaheim, California, to promote her roles in 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens and 2016's The Jungle Book and The Queen of Katwe.
"I've been lucky to work so extensively with Disney," she said. "Star Wars is another world altogether. And to be able to have that experience and be a part of that continuation of Han Solo and Luke and Leia's journey is really a blessing, to be able to play a small part in that. And then Jungle Book is another world altogether as well."
The live-action remake of Disney's 1967 cartoon is being directed by Jon Favreau, and features Nyong'o as the voice of mother wolf Raksha.
"I really enjoyed that process – playing the mother of this boy (Mowgli), and the love between a human and a wolf was something really cool to explore," she told PEOPLE.
The actress, 32, also discussed The Queen of Katwe, which tells the true story of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi. Nyong'o will portray the mother of Phiona, who was raised in a Ugandan slum and went on to become a Woman Candidate Master in chess.
"Queen of Katwe, which is in our real world, and again is a magical and real story of a girl who had a dream to be a chess master," she said. "And through hard work and complete commitment to it she went against all odds and achieved that and that's something I really believe in."
