While the Internet was quick to assume Mariah Carey's new single "Infinity" was inspired by soon-to-be ex-husband Nick Cannon, the Elusive Chanteuse was quick to clarify the ballad's meaning.
"Honestly, it's about loving yourself first," the singer, 46, told EXTRA Monday night when she kicked off her forthcoming Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace.
" 'Infinity' is like love equals you first. There's a section of the song where it's like a chant – 'You're leaving, you're leaving, you're out the door infinity loving me more and more' – meaning you have to love yourself first, it can't be all about somebody else's thing or their issues, it has to be you and then you can deal with the rest of the things in your life."
Still, the diva can understand the confusion: "Yeah, we had fun with the lyrics, but I do that with a lot of songs."
The performer, whose greatest hits album is due next month, also dished on her relationship with Brett Ratner, with whom she set off dating rumors when they stepped out together in March.
"Of course there were these rumors of our fabulous love affair, darling," Carey quipped, joking: "I want everyone to know that we're getting married next week, me and Brett forever, and ever, infinity and beyond."
But, in all reality: "We're really good friends. He's super talented, and I'm just really proud of him and everything he's doing."
As for twins Moroccan and Monroe, who turn 4 this week, "They're loving" Las Vegas. (Mom's residency begins May 6.)
"They're doing all their activities, they're enjoying themselves," she says. "They have each other, they have their routine."
