All great fashion designers have muses. For Hubert de Givenchy, it was Audrey Hepburn. Christian Louboutin looks to Dita von Teese. And most recently, Karl Lagerfeld has called upon Cara Delevingne on behalf of the Chanel Fashion House. But what are the odds that just one star would be a muse to many? Rihanna (the star who is known for her bold, risky red-carpet moves) happens to be just about every designer's muse. In just one day, two top designers have deemed the star as the fashion world's "new Grace Kelly," so we've rounded up even more people obsessed with the singer.
When Balmain's Creative Director Olivier Rousteing isn't working on his latest collection, he's probably engrossed in his other full-time job: Rihanna. "There's no doubt about it," he told the Telegraph. "She has this aura, this charisma. It's not only sexual. It's something else. She is like a new Grace Kelly, or a Madonna… This woman of the world who represents a new world." Apparently the designer doesn't have much down time thanks to the star either. "Just work and Rihanna — but that's enough. That's a lot!"
In another interview released today, shoe designer Manolo Blahnik said he loves the 26-year-old singer so much that she is the sole exception to his "no ink" policy. "The only person I love with a tattoo is Rihanna," he told Footwear News (everyone else reminds him of "criminals and bad people"). "I was sitting at a table with her [at the British Fashion Awards] and was so impressed. She looks like Grace Kelly. She's just so beautiful, so polite — she's not the person you see in interviews."
But these aren't the first designers to speak out about their love for the star and her try-anything-once style. Adam Selman, her go-to designer (and the creator of that diamond-encrusted naked dress) loves that the star isn't afraid to step outside of the (fashion) box. "She's daring, she's bold, and she's not afraid of fashion. She doesn't let fashion overcome her," Selman said in an interview with Style.com. "She embraces it and makes everything she puts on her own. Not many people do that."
Tom Ford, who was presented with an amfAR Award by Rihanna (along with Miley Cyrus) last year, said the star can wear just about anything — and make it look good. "She can throw on combinations you can't imagine other people could possibly wear, and look great," he told Vogue. He also thinks she can wear nothing and make it look good too — he wrote in a blog post, "As [husband] Richard [Buckley] said plainly after the evening, 'If you are as beautiful as Rihanna, you almost owe it to the world to appear in public almost nude' and I have to say that I wholeheartedly concur."
And finally, Peter Dundas, of Pucci, deems Rihanna the cool girl we all wish we could be. "[Rihanna] is a very talented dresser, in the way that Kate Moss is," he said in the same Vogue interview. "She's an amplified version of what a lot of girls want to look like, but she's always a step ahead of the game."
Tell us: What do you think of Rihanna's style? Is she a modern Grace Kelly or something more?
