At least they could laugh about it. Things got a little awkward when Nick Cannon and the cast of the new show Real Husbands of Hollywood appeared on Katie.
In the episode of Katie Couric's talk show airing Thursday, Mariah Carey's husband of five years winds up sitting next to model Selita Ebanks – who happens to be his ex-fiancée.
Cannon's costars on the BET reality show, Nelly and Boris Kodjoe, laughed uncomfortably as Ebanks turned to Cannon and said, "Hi, how are you?"
That prompted the America's Got Talent host to quickly try to smooth things over. "So we'll just clear this all up," he said. "We used to be engaged, so it's not an awkward moment. They're laughing that we're sitting next to each other." He put his arm around the 30-year-old, adding, "But we're cool. We're friends."
"Maybe we should have put you guys on different chairs," Couric suggested.
But the former Victoria's Secret model explained they'd been seated together because Cannon's hot pink suit would have clashed with fellow guest Cynthia Kate McWilliams's red dress.
Turning to Ebanks, Cannon asked, "What? You didn't want to sit next to me?"
It appeared to be a difficult question for Ebanks – whose engagement to Cannon ended in October 2007, just seven months before he married Carey, 43, in the Caribbean. As she hesitated to answer, Cannon, 33, exclaimed, "It's about to turn into a whole different kind of talk show!"
