Must have at least one of these certifications and hands-on coding & mapping (6 months+) ICD-10 codes. Certs: CPC, CPC-H, CPC-P, RHIT, RHIA, RN, CCA, CCS, CCS-P
The ideal candidate will be a qualified coder with 5+ years of experience in the healthcare industry working with health plans, outpatient providers and healthcare IT vendors. Currently working into the area of ICD-9 to ICD-10 transformation; well versed with the ICD mapping complexities, GEMs. This role would require exposure to current ICD-10 solutions offerings in the market. The ICD-10 Coder will be under the direction of the ICD-10 Coding Manager and will be responsible for providing detailed coding direction related to ICD-10. This position will assist with code identification from ICD-9 to ICD-10, adjustments to current coding/clinical policies and procedures, and recommendations for future business direction related to the transition to ICD-10. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Review ICD-9 claims data and verify mappings to the equivalent ICD-10 codes using the HLI Crosswalk tool • Assist in developing the process and approach for conducting the mapping of ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes • Work with medical directors, nurses, business analysts and ICD-10 project managers to establish credibility at all levels within AMFC • Support various levels of validation required for mapping rules • Create coding education content to be used by physicians and clinical staff, if needed • Communicate effectively and comfortably with clinical and business staff to ensure comprehension of clinical equivalency decisions/mappings • Readily maintain a comprehensive understanding of coding rules and guidelines in order to facilitate communication with physicians. • Organize and track business related changes recommended due to ICD-10 changes • Share industry notifications as required by management • Support the SMEs, project sponsor, ICD-10 clinical and PMO office in ICD-10 training activities • Assist in the interpretation of reimbursement, trends, reporting and adjustments to business rules and edits as necessary for all AMFC LOBs • Assist with design of training and education documents for ICD-10 activities and ICD-10 data analysis, as needed • In conjunction with the ICD-10 Coding Manager, provide information and recommendations to assist other departments within the organization design their business rules related to ICD-10 Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics • Credentialed CPC, CPC-H, CPC-P, RHIT, RHIA, RN, CCA, CCS, CCS-P • Certified as ICD10 Instructor/Trainer or eligible for certification • College degree with a background in the health information or medical education is preferred • 2-5 years of coding experience with ICD-9 diagnosis and procedures and CPT codes • Must maintain ICD-10 certification and comply with continuing education requirements per AAPC/AHIMA • 1- 3 years' experience in creating mapping business rules for ICD 10 codes for a GEM based crosswalk (i.e. ICD 9 – 10 transformation) • Exposure/experience with any Business Intelligence tools preferred • Understanding of Healthcare Payer claims data, HIPAA standard transaction and code set standards, industry code classifications such as ICD-9, CPT to ICD-9 Maps, ICD-10, HCPC coding, National Drug Codes, etc. • Prior consulting experience and willingness to travel (10-20%) for business at other AMFC LOBs
