Is there any sci-fi franchise Zoe Saldana isn't fit for? The "Avatar" and "Star Trek" actress is reportedly up for one of the lead roles in Marvel's upcoming movie "Guardians of the Galaxy."
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Saldana is in negotiations to play the role of Gamora in the 2014 film. Like "Avatar," "Guardians of the Galaxy" would require Saldana to get a CGI makeover. Gamora is described as a "green-skinned humanoid who is the last of a species that was exterminated by a race known as the Badoon" who also "happens to be a skilled assassin."
Two of the five Guardians of the Galaxy have already been cast in the upcoming James Gunn film. "Parks and Recreation" star Chris Pratt is playing Star-Lord (aka Peter Quill), while WWE fighter Dave Bautista has been cast as Drax the Destroyer. That leaves the roles of Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered raccoon, and Groot, a massive tree-man, left to fill if Saldana does indeed take Gamora.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" is due in theaters on Aug. 1, 2014, following the releases of "Iron Man 3," "Thor: The Dark World" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Check out some concept art of the main characters below:
