Family members (Beyonce's mom and cousin), media insiders and some lucky fans (radio and online contest winners) got a first look at the expectant superstar's new concert film. Available Nov. 29 as part of a two-disc DVD, Roseland was shot in August, during Beyonce's four-night stint at that New York venue, and also features behind-the-scenes footage, including excerpts from her "video diaries."
Resplendent in a black gown, the 30-year-old singer answered a few questions before the screening. Beyonce was obviously well aware she was pregnant during the Roseland shows: "The whole time I was thinking, everyone can see."
She admitted, "When you're pregnant, it's a little bit hard to breathe. … It's hard to sing and dance at the same time. But I get my strength from all the love from the fans."
Of the video entries, which chronicled backstage and off-the-cuff moments —- among them husband Jay-Z popping up at a Destiny's Child appearance way back when — Beyonce said, "I've always done video diaries. I don't Tweet, but it's still important people get a sense of who I am."
Part of the reason she was eager to release the DVD is that she knew "this was probably my last performance" — quickly adding, "this year," to cheers.
Asked if Roseland could also provide something of a time capsule for her unborn child, she responded. "Well, there's a lot about my life. (The baby) can say, 'I can't believe I was in that belly.' "
