"I don't want to think about being the frontrunner," the singer said in an interview with PEOPLE after Monday's show. "It's so much pressure."
Instead, the singer wants to "focus on doing a good job" and put in "that extra hard work."
That means more than just learning the steps and choregraphy. "It's really about connecting to the actual feeling of the dance," she said.
And Chmerkovskiy says she sometimes takes it too far. "She gets into character so much sometimes it's like, 'Okay, snap out,' " he said. "I was afraid you were going to slap me again like you did on the floor."
