Serena Williams says she is determined to make up for 2016 grand slam disappointment after reaching the Wimbledon final with ease on Thursday. 

The defending champion dispatched Elena Vesnina 6-2 6-0 in just 48 minutes on Centre Court to reach her ninth decider at the All England Club.

The world number one suffered upset losses in the finals of both the Australian Open in January and the French Open last month, going down to Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza at Melbourne Park and Roland Garros respectively.

But she now has a chance to make amends for those unexpected defeats and claim a 22nd grand slam singles title.

"I can't believe I'm in the final again," she told the BBC.

"Obviously I'm 'O' and two so I'm determined to get at least one [grand slam title] this year."

Williams could face her sister for a fifth time in a Wimbledon final if Venus is able to overcome Kerber in the other semi-final.

"It would be great because then we'd be guaranteed to have a Williams on the trophy and that's the ultimate goal for both," she said.

"I want her to win and to do well.

"And if not, Kerber will be another good match. I played her in Australia so, either way, I look forward to it."

As for Vesnina's inability to mount a meaningful resistance, Williams was gracious enough to insist she had not been able to take the threat posed by the Russian lightly.

"I was really focused because we've had a lot of tough matches," she said.

"Especially on this surface, I knew she could really bring it to me. I was ready.

"It's never easy out there. Every point you have to fight for."
